Well, damn.

I'll just go back to classical-romantic-neoclassical pieces, then.

With regards to the Decibel rating, it's a logarithmic thing.

From memory, it's Loudness = log10 (Intensity/Intensityo).

So, as the bit inside the brackets get increasingly small, the Loudness rating gets more negative. If it helps, it can be rewritten as I/Io=10L.

With regards to the actually going deaf, that sucks. Still, look at it this way; the world's just getting noisier and noisier, so in 20 years time when the incessant city noises have driven us all insane, you'll still be cruising along cool as the proverbial cucumber.

Hehe.

Learn mind-slave!  Learn!

I remember when I had to take calculus - I damn near failed calc I & II, despite math being my strong point in the past.  Then, in calc III, the professor finally told us what the bloody hell calculus was and it all made sense at long last. -_-

If my future career requires calculus, I'm just going to switch careers.  If that one requires calculus, I'm going to join the football team.  I figure I'll break in half the first time someone hits me and that'll be the end of it.

Am I the only one that likes maths here? Seriously, it can actually be both beautiful and interesting. Of course, I may not be the sanest person, I did take two calculus units for my options this year...

Yes I love maths too Osmosis. I also don't get all this calc hate.

Yikes.

I'm always scared of having hearing loss since my grandpa (who's like 90 and otherwise in fairly good shape...for 90) is pretty much deaf as a post and you have to shout at him, slowly, for him to hear you. Also, too much loud music. I've cut down on blasting music into my earphones though and I take earplugs to concerts so hopefully I'll be fine.

Did you find out what the hearing aids are like? Hopefully not like my grandpas, which are pretty visible and sometimes make feedback noises like a mic.

it's suprisingly comfortable to wear, and has no feedback noises (I think modern ones filter that out anyway)

it's help me a lot in understanding conversations, and I like that, but I hate the every-day experience. All the noise I didn't even know was there before, like foot-steps, are now coming down on me at full strength, and that makes me jumpy and annoyed.

I avoid wearing it at home, because god damn, things like my keyboard, or the pc fan, etc are freaking annoying.

Reminds me of when I first got glasses. Everything was so clear all of a sudden, it was just disconcerting, and you realised that all that came before you put the glasses on looked like a blob. The amount of detail I was missing was pretty shocking, but keeping them on made me feel weird.

I had a similar experience when, of all things, I had a shitload of wax built up in my ears and plunged it out. Everything sounded really echoey and weird for a few days, until I either got used to it, or, possibly, the wax built back up.

So, being near deaf is actualy better than not being so in the end then? It just lets you CHOSE what to hear, and moder tech lets you hear as good or better as normal peaple when you want to?
