The word for hearth is in the language apparently though.

That would be cool if Toady would be able to incorporate holiday event type things and holiday figures into the game.

Yikes, the Orcs have a nasty language.  Traditional foreplay would be right out for them; how would they ever "say my name" for one another?  No wonder Ocrs are always so bloodthirsty and violent, they're getting sub-par action.

"Urist McMiner cancels dig: attending Armokmas Party"?

It would be cool. And it would bring about ends for tantrums spirals. Also a good way to get rid of all the extra kitten tallow biscuits from that last catsplosion. Or dragonsplosion

You do not understand the ways of Toady One. He is not a business, he's just a guy trying to make a fun game. He's invited people to come along and experience the journey with him (and help him test it out as he goes along). At the end of the day, I don't think his main goal is to sell Dwarf Fortress, its just to create the best game possible.

The elves are actually indeed his "little helpers". How they help can be a bit of an issue but dwarves don't care.

2 words to end that delimma: slave labor.

See: Urist has a fortress all to himself. Its a cozy little place, dug out somewhere in the tundra lands way up high. He lives with his Misses, and they lead a happy life giving toys to little girls and boys once a year. But how do they do it?

Urist happens to have a trap door, one that is so hidden, that no guest sees it. In this trapdoor, is the actual fortress. Dug for 10 z-levels down, it is filled with workshops and jail-like rooms where he keeps thousands of elves. They work until their dying breath, then their meat is used for food and their bones are carved into toys and crafts...

Wow. I actually started to really creep myself out right there...

You haven't created a monster, you have added onto the legend of Urist McClaus.

No, we/I made the legend of Urist McClause, the Merry Slayer of Elves.

A dwarf among dwarves is no specialty. An elf among dwarves is rare. A human among dwarves is rare, but not impossible. This is the tale of Urist McClause, the Merry Slayer of Elves.

Now, at this point, you are probably asking yourself: "Human? Pft." But this human, is unlike any other. Elves, being elvish as they are, attacked a human town after it had vut down to many trees. All the village fought back, including one very unlikely human guard. As the town was overrun, this single guardsman fought to the last stand for his city.

Death loomed as elves fell his his war hammer, for each one killed, another would appear. But lo! In the distance? A banner? Had the fellows down the road seen the fire and smoke? He ran towards the coming banners as they appeared at the hill, but what he saw was not human reinforcements...

But the local dwarven garrison had followed the party of elves to the city after they had been repelled by the mighty dwarven fortresses. As dwarves rushed to combat the elves, the single guard was taken under the wing of these dwarves. They brought him back to their fortress after a long season of campaigning. They taught him to carve, work stone, fight with a hammer and how to grow and forage underground plants.

As years progressed, the name of this guardsman was lost amongst all the others, and in the cheer of dwarven spirit, the king of the fortress proclaimed this man to be Urist. Urist McClause, the Merry Slayer of Elves for all of the fighting he had done since the day they saved him. Living amongst the dwarves, eating their food, drinking at their tables, and working beside them began to take affect upon Urist. Soon he became shorter, started growing  a flowing beard, and somehow, he had lived longer than his expected life.

Eventually, he moved away from the fortress halls to become an adventurer. As parting gifts, the dwarves gave him a full suit of adamantine armor, and a artifact elfbone and crystal glass war hammer.  He travelled to the forgotten halls of the north and began to build a hut. He spent years alone working in secrecy.

Until, he popped up back at the halls of the old fortress, bringing with him a sack of gifts to repay the cheer and help the dwarves had given him. There were celebrations and feasting for many days.

No one knows what happened to him in the upcoming years. Or how this tradition spread, but what they do know is that every year, upon the same day, Urist McClause would appear upon the hall doorstep and bring gifts, cheer, and feasting to all those within.
