Goodness, there just seems to be no proper location for this. Were the chat program still around I'd ask them for help on this but they are not so I won't.
I want to get this suggestion done but I can't seem to put it together in a pleasing and more importantly an Inspired manner. What do you suggest I do?
Author's Notes:
I have been meaning to do this for a while but never thought I could come up with sufficiant ideas nor did I believe I could get the community involved. Though I guess I couldn't resist but I am still finding it hard to beat out my minimum of at least 50. I am sorry for spelling mistakes in advance but I lack spellcheck on this computer.
Introduction:
So as you may or may not know, Toady has started his work for randomly generated creatures. The two he has used so far are Forgotten Beasts and Titans (And a possibility of randomised Demons). The point of this thread is to come up with possible features and templates for these randomised creatures. While I am putting my work into categories it isn't a requirement or even suggested.
Limbs
-Wraps, Chains, Rope: loose chains that can animate and act like ordinary limbs
-Hundred Limbs: Having obscene numbers of limbs or even infinite
-Vines, Thorned Branches, Branches: Plant-like limbs, better yet they could also be covered in flowers, fruit, berries.
-Shadows, Phantom: A creature could have intangable limbs jetting from its shadow
-
Concept: Infinite
-A bodypart that is “Infinite” or with numbers so high that it doesn't matter becomes similar to hair. In the same way we don't keep track of every individual hair we don't keep track of each individual part. Only attacks that could destroy a substantial amount of these parts can do damage to it as a whole.
Features
-Runes: The creature in question is engraved/tatooed in strange writing.
-Reinforcement: A Stone or wooden creature may have metalic supports keeping it together.
-Body of Objects: A creature could be made out of small objects like Stones or gems.
-Body of Vine/Chain: In a similar way to the above the creature could be made from some sort of course weave like chains, vines, cloth, wraps, skin, viens
-Crystal Growth: Crystals could be growing on the creature's back or other locations.
-Mouthed, Eye: The creature could be covered by gaping mouths/Eyes of various creatures.
-Creature Part: Jetting out of the creature's body are the bodies of rats, snakes, dogs, humans, goblins, what have you. They could scream out in pain, knash out in anger, or sing some sort of angelic chorus.
-Skulls and bones Growth: The creature has bones growing on itself like some sort of necrotic exoskeleton.
-Skeletal/Rotten Limb: One of the creature's limbs appears to be rotten away. It is otherwise perfectly fine.
Templates
--Concept: The idea here are things a creature could resemble that are very unlikely to ever be a creature otherwise.
-Hand: They could just be a giant severed hand resembling another creature.
-Head, Torso: A Head or Torso, these are usually paired with some sort of bloody skeletal limbs.
-Heart, Brain: A disembodied heart or brain of some unknown creature. Perhaps it floats or maybe it walks on thin strands of viens/Nerves.
That is where I am right now. But I am noticing that I keep adding more and more of the same and it just gets less and less interesting. Maybe I am just overanalysing it.
Worst of all is I cannot consolidate what I am refering to in a pleasing manner. For example I thought of a Giant floating monolith Titan with glowing runes on the side and steel girders on every corner. At the bottom on the monolith is a large pig-iron ring that hosts a series of four lengthy chains. The monolith attacks with those chains.
Heck before I even made this I was actually planning on drawing Titans and simply saying what you could get out of them... but I am not good enough of an artist for that idea to work. Heck I was even planning on generating spheres as well for some random creatures.
A Large Brainlike creature where the wrinkles of the brain is represented by vines that can lash out at attackers was another.
It really frustrates me when I don't come through with an idea. I am still guilty for that unfinished Sphere and unfinished Insanity suggestion threads.
