I made one 143 z-levels, from this:
<...>
I don't recall what was there because I did not play the fortress yet, but in sheer height it qualifies for this thread.   ;D

besides from outshining my glorified mountain with yours -- wait a minute! Weren't you playing the Creatures series and making stuff for it ages ago, say, 1999 or earlier?

It's good to be remembered.   :)

I think I genned the world I posted above because of a thread on right-angle cliffs (which this has) and extremes.  This one has an underground river but nothing else as far as special features.

There were a couple of people who had mountains over 200 levels tall.

Mine's only a hundred-ish, but it makes up for it by already having a peak that looks like Armok is flipping the bird at me.

regardless, the slime shooter will be completed, come hell or high water, which are both entirely plausible setbacks at this point.

Got the exact same world that you did after about 1800 rejects.

Megaproject suggestion: Carve one of the mountains into a giant middle finger that points towards the forest retreats.

I just might do that myself, if my framerate isn't too low.

Genned the world, but the site that you're at had different magma/HFS locations than you said. The site I'm at is humble by comparison (38-z cliffs) but my FPS is healthy, at least.

I still think you should do the middle finger megaproject.

sound pretty cool. i wonder how tall actually a mountain can be, at best? are there  any cap to it's heigh or no?

i think that's not a bad idea after all

i have found an adamantine vein with Hidden Fun Stuff right under the middle mountain, and look what i've got there
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

another megaproject would be to get rid of the demon Fun Stuff down there and open a special museum for our forest friends

Somebody build an epic fort on there ASAP! I'm pretty sure my computer can't handle it.

tear down the mountain and rebuild it one tile over!
Better idea:

Tear down the mountain, then rebuild it completely; down to the very stone material. (You may either need reveal or excellent memory to accomplish this.)

You must build two Trade Depots, one normal one, and another one where you have to walk through the HFS to get to. Whenever elves arrive, remove access to your normal depot.

Cleaning out the clowns in the HFS is optional.

Clowns will attack. You can't hold them back. There is no stopping them.  NOW IS THE END.
