holy carp! the tallest mountain i've ever seen! (140z)
« on: October 23, 2009, 02:31:03 pm »

i don't know if there is anything taller than this thing somewhere, but i just genned an awesomeness that burns my dwarven eyes with the shine of its true glory. if to believe Visual Fortress, it is 140z-levels high.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

And i'm going to believe VF, because -- it BURNS!! -- it's like staring up at Cologne cathedral.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

i'm going to build a Megaproject out of it, just don't know what kind of.
(p.s. it has
1)magma pipe
2)underground river - a funny one, it appears on one z-lvl and flows there, then drops in a hole 1lvl down and flows in opposite direction to go down in another hole and vanish
3) white sand, basalt, phyllite, gabbro, andesite, quartzite
4) adamantine

i don't know how to export world information after it's already genned, but can upload a blank save, if anyone needs it.

I think that just might be the tallest one so far...
Quite impressive :)
How much FPS are going getting out of it? :p

Also, worldgen info!
EDIT:

Cant quite remember >.< It's pretty easy, that's what I remember :p

I think you just have to export an image of the fort.  Along with the image should be a file with the seed.

You definitely need to drop some kittens 140 levels to the bottom and see if anything special happens.

Oof, Freezing climate? The most extreme sites are often extreme to the letter though.

What mods? I've tried it on vanilla, dig deeper, and some dig deeper/orc mod/asdasdf amalgam I hashed to gether, but each one only gave me rapidly increasing rejections.

Oof, Freezing climate? The most extreme sites are often extreme to the letter though.

i had a project on mind, to build a castle out of ice so i was looking for freezing world with magma and underground river to support it, with sand oand trees optionally, and i tell you it's quite hard to get all of these things in one place in cold climate at the same time.

How much FPS are going getting out of it? :p
6x8 area gives FPS between 85 and 35 on load of the map (35 was when a cave-in happened, it happens somewhere each time i start). though, don't know how much it will be when i'll build something. that's definately not a map for notebooks  ;)

What mods?

as far as i can see, angler mod, dendrology mod, glass mod 2, icemod 1.1 (all on DFFD) and also the mods that come with The Waterfall save - llamas and something - and the cat bug fix. i think these were all of it.

oh i remember having a warning on volcanism or something, that world gen can't get it right, and got this world right after the warning - after ~1000+ rejected worlds

On OS X 40d16, the goodies are mostly moved out of reach, too  :-\  By my count, those peaks go 128 z-levels up from the ground.

Thousands of rejections... There's probably crazier stuff right in this very worldgen.

Holy shitburgers. This is epic.

I'll try the gen params, I'm also running d16, but I'm worried that it'll lag because of my crappy laptop.

Megaproject suggestion: Carve one of the mountains into a giant middle finger that points towards the forest retreats.

EDIT: 1887 rejections. So many fucking volcanoes.

I got it to gen after getting some warning and disregarding it.  Turns out the magma pip was farther west from your embark, I ended up getting the river splitting the mountain range down the middle, which is pretty neat too.

here's what worldgen looks for me (centered on the square with future embark location, when genned it automatically centers on some ocean)

can you post a screenshot, how it looks like splitted?
in my embark the mountain were in the upper part of screen (north?), approx. where adamantine was on pre-embark screen, opposite to magma place

I made one 143 z-levels, from this:

I don't recall what was there because I did not play the fortress yet, but in sheer height it qualifies for this thread.   ;D
