I'm tinkering with replacing nearly every creature in the game, and my first tests are showing some of the deleted creatures appearing in-game.

Examples:
- Camel came with my wagon and was available on the embark screen, even though it has been deleted.
- Rhesus Macaque leather items were visible in legends, even though it has been deleted.
- Fire Imps appeared in a magma pipe alongside the custom creature that was directly written over the Fire Imp entry.

     Any ideas why these are still showing up?

You need to delete the contents of your /data/objects folder.

Yeah, whenever an entry is removed, data/objects must be cleared:  The game doesn't read the text in the raw/objects folder for data, it converts the text of the raw/object folder files into data files that it can read.  The system as of yet lacks the sophistication to remove entries from data/objects when something is removed from raw/objects.

I hear the government has the same problem when they delete people. They delete them, but their families still remember..
