REVENGE!!!
« on: October 23, 2009, 10:31:25 am »

So as some of you are aware my old computer was defeated by an evil Fake Virus Protection Virus entirely frying it and forcing me to buy a new one leaving many of my beloved files behind.

I was surfing Superdickery when suddenly I noticed that the internet was trying to open acrobat reader for absolutely no reason, so I shut down my internet explorer and acrobat reader with my task manager. I start to activate my normal security of adware and Roger's Anti-virus (That wasn't updated since April) when suddenly I see another icon.

BOOM I was accausted by not only one but three fake anti-virus programs. I quickly shut my internet off knowing that if I left it on they would easily download their final forms and my laptop with all my notes would be gone forever! I tried to delete them manually but they were "In use" so I opened up my task manager, but it was disabled. I was trapped, I searched my computer for some way to turn task manager on, the programs constantly prevented me from entering folders, and I found it! I had to be logged onto the internet...

Without internet I couldn't get a proper protection... So I used a Dex drive, I was on a different computer, and installed a virus protection suggested by Yahoo questions and updated it. I activated the virus but they wouldn't go without a struggle, they opened up hundreds of porno sites, used pop ups that filled the screen with abnoxious banners, and attempted to shut down my virus protection plenty of times (In fact it would have succeeded if the virus protection wasn't already prepared) after an hour they were gone!

TAKE THAT! that is for my computer! DIE DIE DIE!

The total was 51 Viruses

Any stories, interesting or not, of your vanquishing of particularly difficult viruses?

I asked for help on a tech support website, and while it took a little while to get a response, when I did get a response it crushed the adware infection I had completely.

I have had so much trouble with viruses. It makes me have to reboot my computer practically every half-year.

strange, I have the same problem

just spent the last afternoon trying to get rid of soem backdoor programm that masks itself as windows system defender

removed all admin rights, put in a driver that kept me from getting into secure run
and fried all anti-virus programms I had

fuck

I somehow got rid off it, reinstalled all the anti-virus programms (deinstalling them first was fucking hard though), and now am removing the last droppers that the attack left over

I should be clean now, but damn, you never know

damn it internet,

My brother got the same thing the other day, and we're gonna have to reformat that computer.

It's an epidemic.

I had a similar problem with my old desktop. Thankfully it was just an adware that would just pop up annoyingly every minute or so, so I could do research on how to cripple it. Once I had found the right information, I entered the registry editor.

Now know that editing the registry is a finicky business. one wrong move and you could do more harm than the virus. So always be prepared to accept the consequences.
Such as a virus that has enough files and registry edits made to it to completely render it harmless. I think the old hard drive I have on my shelf still has the virus on it, completely paralyzed.

But still, holy hell man 51 viruses?

I once had a virus, years ago, that would automatically shut down my antivirus when I started a scan. Thing is, it would take a few seconds to do this, and I finally learned that I could keep that virus from executing by killing its process in the task manager, thereby allowing the scan to finish and quarantine the offending files. Man, I felt so l33t that day. Haven't had any problems recently. Or maybe I'm just blind to their presence.

It started when a virus began pulling up more ads then can comfortably be expressed on a graphing calculator. I'm running a laptop, so I manually pulled the battery out of the back, which effectively sliced whatever program was running in half. From there I was able to reboot, and run my virus protection while the virus remained dormant. (I don't know why it didn't start back up when I started the computer up, though I assume my battery shenanigans were like taking a sledgehammer to the gut.)

I back my important shit up, so I emerged victorious!

I never have problems with viruses.  Mostly because I never go on a site I'm not sure about.  Sketchy or highly insecure sites seem to be where most viruses come from.

Running this install of XP for over a year, without any virus protection whatsoever. I don't think have any viruses or spyware, and even if I do they don't do anything noticable.

Back when Magic Trainer Creator was still being used to cheat in games, I had an odd little trojan thing that kept doing awful things to my registry and somehow kept being overlooked by the antivirus I had at the time (the AV was crap, but that's not the point). I knew what was the offending file, but back then there was no way for me to delete an actively running program, and it kept doing its stuff no matter what I tried. Then I remembered a side-effect of MTC, where locking on a few memory values at once and setting them to freeze at a very high refresh rate would crash the target process. So I fired up the cheat program, found the running virus process, took a pageful of memory addresses and set them all to freeze. Sure enough, the intruder quite rapidly imploded, and I was able to delete its files. The trojan was never heard from again. I felt real proud for doing that (though I could probably just use safe mode >_>).

Despite my habit(now gone) to stay without a firewall, and the rarity of my anti virus scans I never had any problem with viruses. Only once i got a virus, it was a trojan. But antivirus just deleted it i think.

I had some recurring nasty adware, that pretend-anti-virus-virus type, that temporarily seriously fucked up my computer.  It would keep loading or redirecting adpages when I'd browse, and even after I found it I couldn't get rid of it because it was either always "IN USE" or I somehow didn't have administrative clearance to alter it.  Finally, by some miracle, I managed to catch it before it activated and deleted it, but I guess I only deleted part of it.  That almost made things worse - it wouldn't load adpages anymore, but instead once it started running it would make my computer freeze and stutter every few seconds until I rebooted.  I finally fixed that somehow, but it's still lurking on my drive.  If I don't deactivate a fake Rundll32.exe every startup it'll kick back into full gear.

Years ago I picked up some crazy blackhat virus that exploited a security hole in XP.  Every time I would log onto the Internet (I still had dial-up in those days) the computer would activate a "remote network signal" or some shit and shut itself down after 60 seconds.  I managed to partially break that one too, but I had to disable the leftover program on every startup or I couldn't run any programs.  It would rename itself every time, so it became a daily wrestling match as I'd try to click fast enough to end the program from the Task Manager in the two or three seconds the window would stay open.

I've only ever had one virus that was even semi-malicious. More of an annoyance really. Whenever I tried to use the shortcuts on my mouse, it would refuse the shortcuts and instead it would launch Opera. My brother is a computer technician, so I paid him in Fresca to take it out of the registries.
