Never okay to deny service on something so arbitrary.  They have the money to pay for it, that means they have earned the ability to pay for it.  They should have it.

And just how will anyone else know, exactly?  They don't have to parade the cake around or put it on display.  The only ones who ever need see it are the cake makers and the parents.

And if catering to neo-nazis is a problem, then I guess we should mark them all with tattoos and stuff them in a fenced off farm to fend for themselves so that no one inadvertently sells them grocieries and clothes?

So tempted to yell "Godwin's Law!" But anyway, this whole situation is quite funny. Wal-Mart is stuck between catering for a kid who's named after a dictator.

I remember once when there was some Indian feng shui thing in the papers, which included a swastika because it was a completely relevant symbol. People complained about it.

"So arbitrary"?  It's rather troubling that you left the interpretation of "arbitrary" arbitrary.

They have the money to pay for it, that means they have earned the ability to pay for it.  They should have it.

This has no semblance of logic and the conclusion is in blatant contradiction of reality.  How much do assassinations cost, again?

And just how will anyone else know, exactly?  They don't have to parade the cake around or put it on display.  The only ones who ever need see it are the cake makers and the parents.

Yeah, employees never leak anything to the press.

Not if they can get fired for it.  And most people working at walmart are the kind that depend on that job - as in, they can't get much else.  Arbitrary is a reason that has nothing to do with the service.  Some who drives drunk and has been in car crashes three times in the last week, that is not an arbitrary reason for denying him car insurance - insurance is a bet, and that'd be a stupid one to make.  But a cake with a name on?

I dont think Godwins law applies to discussions about nazis.

Anyway its not the kids fault his name is Hitler, he deserves cake just as much as any other child.

Well, now that you mention it, that would sort of be poetic justice, wouldn't it?

No.  My sarcastic point was that Wal-Mart is reducing themselves to their level.  Just makes me hate Wal-Mart more, really.

They were denied because of the nature of the service they asked for, so the reason had everything to do with the service.  You can pay a Nevada prostitute for sex, but that doesn't mean she's obligated in any sense to scream "Sieg heil" at you if she doesn't wish to provide that service.

But again, the service is to make a custom cake.  For a three-year old child.

Can you imagine how much it would suck to never be able to have something with your name printed on it when you asked for it, unless you changed your name (which you have to be 18 to do)?

So your argument comes down to "think of the children"?  Even though the sale was denied to the awful parents who saddled the kid with that name in the first place?

More specifically, think of the rights of some poor bloke who didn't have a choice.  Among other arguments that you conveniently ignored in that post.

Incredibly poor taste is not against the law.  Neither is telling someone to bugger off because of their poor taste.  No ones rights were violated.  Wal-Mart doesnt guarantee anyone anything.  The feelings of little Adolf Hitler Campbell werent crushed by Wal-Mart.  I am sure there were many other bakeries the parents could have gone to.  Don't turn this into something its not, or poor taste wins.

It's not Wal-mart's responsibility to uphold those rights against their own self-interest, and it's not as if the cake would in any way ameliorate the child's inevitable shitty upbringing.  Also, don't accuse me of ignoring arguments when you spent the entire last page backpedaling to your current position.
