New Embark Save: Waterworks
« on: October 20, 2009, 05:44:42 pm »

Here's a new embark save game for anyone interested:

Waterworks

HFS, Magma, Bauxite, flux, tons of lumber, red sand, some fun geo features (large bowl), two bottomless pits, tons of wood and plants, warm climate with elephants, aquifer (***), at least one descent deposit of magnetite, lots of gems, copper, gold and a platinum vein.

It's only missing coal, an underground river, and a chasm really.  But the abundance of trees should make up for the lack of coal.... and there is water galore.

*** - The aquifer is what I find the most fun (hence the file name) because the map is half flat jungle and half mountain foothill, and it's the left side foothill that has the aquifer (in it's upper elevations, and spordically through the ground under the foothill.   This allows for very large outdoor waterfalls to be created, and safely drained into either of the bottomless pits, as well as used to fill the large bowl with water for high preasure water fun!  It's also ideal for walling off the higher half-open bowl for even larger, refillable water sources.

Of course, you can do the same with the magma if you wish to be more butch.... there is plenty of bauxite to make all the magma safe doohickeys you please.

The build is my standard build with one skilled trader, 4 miners (whith some skill in smelting, masonry, etc.), and an all-in-one farmer-cook-brewer... and woodcutter/carpenter.

Enjoy!!

Here is the world gen for the map...

The site in in the far left column of the world map near the top, two squares east of a  a center map volcano tile.  You can actually get two magma vents into the site if you go with a 5x7 map.  You get a lot more jungle that way, too.

Thanks for posting this.  I have been wanting to find out what it looks like if you open up an aquifer that's above ground.

The # on your local map is the chasm.  I think when it's one tile long, there's a bug where the game generates it exactly like a bottomless pit instead of the usual chasm shape.

It's nothing special, but if it's not a Hot biome I recommend having some way of blocking it, it hot biomes, mine floods out, gets halfway accross the map, then is taken back by the evaporation.
