Owls are pretty damn cool, one of the freaky things about them is how still they can sit and look so natural doing it. Like while I was working at the ren faire there were a group there with hawks, eagles, and owls and I remember standing there looking at two owls and one was standing so still that for awhile the two patons next to me thought it was fake. Then it moved and even then all it did was swivile its head and it looked like a statue again.

Oddly enough another creature shares this trait. Aligators or Crocodiles (One of those)

They can sit soo still that one zoo had a problem with people trying to take pictures next to the "Statues"

A better word is sprint, as few things scare them and their hunting method is sneak attacks and not chasing down prey.

Croc's can't run very far at all, but they can 'leap' about their length (which can get in excess of 12 feet in the big Saltwater Crocs) extremely quickly. It's a very short burst of speed, but extremely fast, which is why Crocs are ambush predators.

Unless you go back to pat him, you're fine, the Croc will sit there and glare at you for daring to not be eaten by it, but after a bit it'll slip back into the water and do it's log impersonation again.
