Thus if I'm your mafia buddy, I can vote for you but you wouldn't gain points.  If we weren't buddies, if I voted for you, unvoted, then vote again, you wouldn't gain extra points (just 1 for the first time I voted).  You wouldn't be allowed to self vote at all.
Ah, I was thinking more about the town self-voting, something like "the protector self-votes at the beginning of the day, thus ensuring that he doesn't give the mafia any points". It wouldn't work with the other two, though.

I do like the idea of a vote-based mass kill as a (the only, short of the town mislynching a lot?) win condition, creating a game where the mafia would try to get votes on themselves but not so many that they were killed. I'll see if I can get together a setup based on that.

Self votes in general would not count towards any powers.
