I used to know how to get these things to go boom, but now I don't and I can't find a thread with directions.  (for the record, temperature is on).

You need to give them [SEVERONBREAKS] so they'll explode everywhere. You don't need to do anything but crank up the homeotherm, shove severonbreaks in and hide your dwarves. Goodbye, kittens~

So they won't die unless they have the sever tag, eh?  I knew that was needed for the actual explosion, but first I wanted to get rid of a cat already in the fort, and just forgot to put that in the OP.

I remember reading somewhere that [HOMEOTHERM] only affects newly created creatures. Try keeping those setting until you get a kitten.

Wasn't that newly generated creatures? IIRC there was some talk that with the current version you need to create a new world for the Thermonuclear Catsplosion to work, I haven't tried it myself, so I don't know if its true. Ah, and make sure you got temperatures turned on in the init, just in case you forgot.

Found it, it's in the Wiki, under Catsplosion.

Well this is frustrating.

I'm being attacked by Orcs in the middle of a tantrum spiral and my fort will surely die unless I make them magically explode.

But no matter how I edit the raw files, they are completely unaffected.

Help?

Edit:

I am saving, editing the raws, then reloading the fortress. The game is not reading the raw files.

When I want to magic an entire species dead mapwide, I give them [IGNITE_POINT:1] or [HEATDAM_POINT:1]. The former hurts them and usually kills about 9 in 10 of them in short order, while the latter is instant death for all of them.

For single-target killspells, Companion is really the only thing that works.

Clear out your data/objects folder (make a backup...) then reload.  Some things won't take effect until those are regenerated from the newly edited raws.  Try editing the cat body plan and just remove their lungs and/or throat.

If you are waiting for a kitten, set the littersize to 1000 so that first pregnancy really finishes big.
