Reading this thread makes me feel really really old.

One of the series I remember watching religiously (even though I can't remember a single episode except the first one) was a trippy french cartoon known as "shagma" or arkadia. And with trippy I mean seriously hard acid. The story is that some hoverchildren living beneath the surface of the earth send out an artificial woman in a living spaceship/thing along with two talking armadillos, in the hope that they can find a cure for their dying inside-the-earth-sun. The ball rolls on from there.

If you're not sure if you've seen this, you'll know after just a few seconds of watching this intro sequence. Be warned, the theme song has been stuck on my brain for twenty years. Skip to about 7 mins in for some of the extra trippy stuff.

A little googling reveals that the english translation was called "Spartakus and the Sun Beneath the Sea" (original french title is "Les Mondes Engloutis".

Super mario brothers super show! I watched that all the time... I even still have a couple of VHS tapes of it.

I think I still have 2-3 of those hidden in a box somewhere.  Well, 2-3 of those plus the Zelda ones combined.  I lump them together since IIRC they were both bookended with live action Mario Bros shenanigans.  I also know that at least one of those tapes no longer works.  It hasn't worked for 15+ years at this point, actually, but we kept it on principle.  It was the Zelda episode with the unicorn, I think.

Anyway, those were awesome.

I'm surprised it hasn't come up any other way yet, but I regret to inform you all that Captain Lou Albano, who played Mario on the Super Mario Brothers Super Show died a couple days ago.  He's swinging his arms from side to side in Heaven now.  Let us all be thankful for the awesome career downturn that brought him to us that way.

Sonic the Hedgehog TV series!

Which one? The Sonic Sez one or the weird Post-Apocalyptic one?

Let's just say they were both great.  The former was pure distilled insanity of a breed found no where else, especially at the time.  And I'm not alone in thinking so.  (Like Not Safe For Work, but probably not why you expect.)

But regarding the later...  What can I say that any other fan wouldn't, that something special came along and it's still nice to remember.  That is the show that will not die.  It was on the air for two seasons, and had about one season worth of good episodes.  In the 15 years since then not only does it still have a huge active fanbase, but four different times people have actually gotten into network boardrooms to pitch for a revive or revamp or relaunch or even a rerun.  Pity it hasn't taken yet.

Yeah, I did.  Out of respect for Toady if nothing else, I didn't link to the other one.

Once you hear it, you can't unhear it.

PINGAS?!

Anyway, the wikipedia entry on the second Sonic series is horrible.  Defies instead of defines, bemusement instead of amusement, it's like it was written by a six year old.

I honestly bought the Super mario bro super show and the LoZ show DVD box sets.

And I have never doubted those purchases. Not once did I think they would be as amazing as they were.
I hate that I missed the eighties. they seem like such fun.

I basically watched Nova as a kid, and that was it. Oh, and Cosmos. Discovery and History channel when we went over to our grandparents (they had cable). Then, we moved, suddenly got Fox, and I watched every single episode of Beast Wars ever maaade.

I grew up watching G1 Transformers, through the movie and into final G2 series. Epic, epic tales. (In saying that I liked the G1 transformers more, but G2 had a better story arcs if I remember correctly.)

Oh and the Muppets (the Muppet Show, Muppet Babies, Sesame Street). Everything I learned in life I learnt from the last three shows.
