I noticed that in a goblin ambush there were a few dwarves working with them, and once my 20 champions slaughtered them my dwarves went and buried the enemy dwarves in coffins. Is this supposed to happen?

Yes.  A dwarf is a dwarf is a dwarf, and all dwarves deserve burial.

Also, you can manufacture vomit at a smelter.  Subsequently removing the smelter spews vomit over a surprising area.

Yes, dwarves are all buried, this includes the goblin dwarves, caravan dwarves, and even dwarves coming out of [SPOILER]. A dwarf is a dwarf, and as such, deserves proper burial.

What kind of statues are your masons making, that you think they have "maximum exposure"?
(Full frontal ones, apparently.  With very short beards.)

Non-dwarves deserve to become practice bolts though.

Alright, then. Maybe I'll create a separate graveyard for them.

They don't distinguish between them. Dwarf corpses go into coffins.
Or, rather, dead dorfs have coffins dedicated to them. If there's a body, it goes in along with any miscellaneous parts.

Elves do it in trees. Humans do it in wooden structures. Dwarves? Dwarves do it underground. With magma.

If you make sure to bury all your dead in time, and preassign graves for your population, a separate graveyard shouldn't be an issue, even if the battlefield contains a mix of local and foreign dwarves.

That's an awful amount of micromanagement.
It also seems a little disturbing and depressing that as soon as a dwarf is born, they mark out where he will be laid to rest. I at least use the system of making sure there's a grave available for them when they pop their XXpig tail shoesXX.
