Finding a Giant Cave Spider
« on: October 16, 2009, 09:02:41 am »

I was trying to find a site with one or more giant cave spiders for capture and eventual taming with the dungeon master. However, having embarked on a few maps with a chasm I wondered if GCS show up on the unit list from the get go or are they hidden?

They are in ambush mode (hidden) from the start.

Ok, are there any failsafe methods for finding it? Look for it's web?

off the top of my head.  port out your world site locations, and scan caves for a GCS, then embark on said cave?

The easiest way would be to use Dwarf Companion and tell it to show all creatures (i.e. not just dwarves), then scan through the list for a hidden GCS. Of course, this'll only work in plain 40d.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.
