A strange mood dwarf who is just being Idle...
« on: October 16, 2009, 12:32:09 am »

I had a dwarf go into a strange mood. Yay, right?

Well, then they go to the idle area (meeting area, or something) and have just been standing there. As far as I can tell they are not demanding anything, never claimed any workshop, nothing.

Am I missing something?

This means that the workshop that the dwarf wants to claim hasn't been built.  What skills does this dwarf have?

Oh! That could possibly be an issue.

He is a "Skilled Metal Crafter". I have a magma forge that has recently lost power due to my attempt at a magma moat. Considering the level of magma has yet to settle I am not usre how I can build another forge.

Eh...

If magma workshops are involved, then you'll also need to keep the non-magma versions around in case of moods.

You could build a regular forge. Strange moods don't need fuel.

Of course, he just might want a magma forge specifically. If he does, you're kind of screwed unless you can restore power.

Thank you very much. I've managed to rig together some ineffectively placed forge temporarily.

At the very least, now I wont have some rampaging dwarf causing trouble.

Be careful with magma forges and moods; if you have one with flickering power, then the forge could easily lose power after the dwarf claims it, at which point he will instantly go insane.

Fortunately, moody dwarves don't even need fuel, so plain forges work just fine.

I always get excited when I get a moody dwarf claiming a forge.
The best artefacts are made in forges.

Metal crafters let you make some truly expensive crafts without resorting to native ore crafting.  Plus all that steel you might have lying around is worth the same as gold.

You need to make said elf leather into the most amazing work of art.  Embed it with every kind of gem you have, stud it with metals, and sew images into it.  Erect a shrine outside your fort with that in the center.  Let the elves know that you view their very skin as naught more but a medium for your dwarves to work on.

You see, dwarves dont need fuel because when they want to build an artifact, a hormone triggers in their brain.
This hormone causes all of their blood to turn to magma, and their skin to obsidian.
They then use their own blood to fuel the forge.

With fey moods, they shout at the material until it heats up.

All other types of moods, they just repeatedly roundhouse kick the metal until it is hot enough to use.
