Dealing with vegetable dwarves
« on: October 15, 2009, 03:09:16 pm »

as of now i have 2 dwarves in my fortress with severed spines, ergo they will only be a nuisance to me for the rest of their lives. is there anyway to move the dwarves to a different location? because if an "unfortunate accident" were to happen to them in the barracks theyre resting in, some of my champions may also get injured.

You could try and designate a new barracks, and then have an "accident"  ::)

Temporarily surround their beds with cage traps, deconstruct the bed and hope they faint while standing on a trap. When they finally do, sell the cage to the elves or something.

Remove the beds and re-build them in another location. Dwarves will come by to pick them up and drop them off in their new home. Then wall them in.

Alternatively, just lock their bedroom doors until they starve.

It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

Or assign one to be sheriff, and the other his assistant.

Or just wall them in.

Why not just use them to fill Royal Guard quotas? At least they still have some use in their lives this way.

^ Best suggestion.  My royal guard is at zero because I only have healthy dwarves.

I always assign them their own bed in a separate room, then deconstruct the bed that they're resting on. Another dwarf will haul them to their own room. Then just lock the door, and wait for them to wither away.

If the dwarf with the spinal injuries is in the military, you may need to set their squad's options to "Sleeps In Room."
