Has DF made you do stupid things IRL?
« on: October 15, 2009, 01:01:15 am »

A few days ago, my Biology class was assigned a project. A group research project. The teacher said we could use computers, so my friend and I decided to work in a group, and she got out her laptop.

Well, where do you start when you get a research project? Wikipedia, of course! So I opened the web browser and went to Wikipedia.

Then, my friend's like "WTF is this, dude?" I looked at the screen and realized that I was trying to look up cellular respiration on the DF Wiki.

Biggest facepalm EVER.

Anyone else have any similar experiences?

Back when i was playing DF habitually, I use to always get the urge to press the Space Bar whenever things got really hectic. Then Id Pause momentarily and wonder why everything was still moving..

My default whenever I start any video game is left hand on wasd+shift+space and right hand on arrow keys.

I refer to everything around my house with DF terminology (Cabinet is food stockpile, fridge is booze stockpile, closet is weapons stockpile, etc)

Every time I see a cat I giggle.

Every time I see two cats in one place I laugh out loud.

At least I'm not alone.

Yesterday I tried to navigate a webpage using the numpad.

Also I often accidentally type DF commands in the bay12games irc channel.

I failed to realize my clothes were on fire once. But that was really more incidental to playing Dwarf Fortress than a result of it.

I went to a zoo a month ago.
We bought some food for feeding the animals and I was given a bag with some small pills in them, I looked at the bag and asked "which animals are these for?"
I just received the answer "Oh, it's for the Carp"
I was scared s**tless :D

Another thing is trying to use shift to make the small cursor in word go faster, when you are spellchecking or something. Really stupid ;D

After playing DF I often find that I have a hard time making it through the day without alcohol. I also have an odd attraction to orthoclase and obsidian... :/

When I'm out with a group of friends I often refer to myself as the expedition leader.

Now I think about it, I once set my hair on fire without noticing. That was years before I discovered DF, but still kinda dorfish.

That would be as deadly to the wielder as to anyone else!  You'd sever your own arm at the first swing!  It's perfect!

The pills are sedatives to keep them from jumping out of the pond and eating people during opening hours. When the zoo closes for the evening, the employee who picked the shortest straw has to dump a wheelbarrow full of babies into the pond to make up for the missed lunches.
