I Downloaded df_28_181_40d15_linux.tar.bz2 to give it a whirl, and out of the box it worked fine.  However it looked really tiny on my 1920x1200 screen so I went into data/init/init.txt and changed the windowed settings to the following:

[WINDOWED:YES]

This is the size and font for windowed mode.  Changing to 800x600 and the 800x600 font might make you happier.

[WINDOWEDX:800]
[WINDOWEDY:600]
[FONT:curses_800x600.png]

This resulted in some of the tiles(?) being corrupted or not loaded properly.  I've taken some screenshots:

Apologies if someone has already reported this!  I had a look, but didn't see anything specific.

On Linux 2.6, dual head with an ATI HD 9460 (fglrx module)

Cheers!

Your font is the problem.  I suggest updating to d16.

I'd love to.  I apologize for asking, but where is it?  Linux downloads aren't available on the main download page and the place where I usually get the linux version (the dev page, http://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/dev_now.html) only has up to d15.
