I recently found a fun little action/rpg game called Bounty Hounds (if it wasn't painfully obvious by the topic title). GameFAQs calls it a third-person shooter. I suppose that's true, but ranged weapons have very limited ammunition. There's also that pesky RPG element.

There doesn't appear to be much of a story, but from what I gather, the aliens have a planet. We want the planet, so we kill them.

What I found most interesting is that the game has a built-in photo taking feature. It only works during interactive segments, though. That means I won't be making a topic in the PWYB! subforum any time soon (well, I could, but RemoteJoy loves to crash my PSP when I'm done recording). I'm going to show off this feature, as well as a few of the game mechanics.

In the upper left are two meters and two numbers (the numbers are replaced with FULL in these pics). First are health and PSI. PSI is used to create magic-like force fields. These can have different effects, from increasing damage dealt or received to slowing down enemies and so on. The number below that, if you're observant, is another number related to health. By pressing the D-pad a certain way, this number will decrease and the health bar will increase. Below that is a number telling how much material you have. This is used to reload weapons as well as identify the vendor trash you pick up.

Your character can have two weapons equipped at one time. You can also have two in reserve and switch willy-nilly between the two. I always switch both at the same time though. If I'm in melee range, I'm not going to use my lazor cannons with the huge recoil time. Likewise, if I'm at range, I'm not going to try to attack something with my hammer.

In the second picture, you will see something not present in the first - in the lower left/right are two numbers. Both happen to be eight because the two weapons I'm using have only eight shots before having to be reloaded. I've never reloaded them as enemies usually creep up on me before I run out. After dispatching them with melee weapons and switching back after a while, they're miraculously reloaded.

I tried to get some good action shots during the fight, but it's insanely difficult to get shots of lasers in flight and incoming missiles.

This was the first boss of the game. If this is any indication of the rest of the game, having heavy weaponry is a good thing. It just about emptied my life bar.

It took twelve shots from my dual Ziggurats (laser cannon, called a Big Gun in the game) to take it down. Those Ziggurats do 1500-2050 damage each, as well as other modifiers (+10% enhanced damage, +1% critical shot, +48 max damage, etc). My melee weapons are pretty much top of the line also, yet my Warhead (hammer) only does 600-920 (+57) and the Pile Driver (the gauntlet thing, called a pilebunker in this game) does a piddly 490-550 (yet it has useful modifiers: heal 21 life after killing something). Something else to keep in mind - big, heavy weapons, such as the Ziggurat and the Warhead are slow. The Pile Driver may do lower damage, but it attacks much quicker.

tl;dr: Fun game. Buy a PSP. Buy the game. If too cheap, buy PSP and install CFW.

I just noticed that all of my photos have a copyright notice at the bottom. The normal game doesn't have that. I guess the photo feature inserts that.
