How do I force my wounded dwarf to rest?
« on: October 12, 2009, 07:10:10 pm »

So, my legendary cleric got wounder in battle, as collateral damage. He's got a yellow spine injury, meaning a LONG LONG rest time. The problem is, he doesn't want to stay still. This stubborn clerc continously tries to get up and falls unconcious, wakes up and tries to get up again. This prevents other dwarves from giving him food and drinks (right?). In other words, I can't get him to stay in "rest" status.

I really wouldn't want to just let him die, I just lost 8 dwarves to 2 goblin ambushes that happened at same time (my megaproject I just started is outdoors and military was slacking off somewhere..). 8 dwarves dead in very short time, so I don't want to risk any ill effects from more deaths.

Is there a way to force the dwarf just to lie down quietly? Otherwise I'll have to baby-sit him for years of game-time and that wouldn't be fun.

I am not up to date on how injuries work, but with other injuries, I know that dwarves can have injuries similar to this. They eventually gain more toughness, and stop fainting so much.

His spine will never heal, thus he cannot rest it off.
However, if you give him good things to work on(make his room the dining room/meeting hall, let him socialize a BUNCH) he could gain enough toughness that the spine doesn't cause him as much problems as it would have before.
Or he could be a sissy for the rest of his life, whichever.

His spine will never heal, thus he cannot rest it off.

Hmm allright. So I guess the best course of action is to assign a new clerk, wait until other dwarves forget about the 8 dead, and then wait for the clerck to have "an unfortunate accident".

Thanks.

You could just let him live but downgrade him to a hauler if he doesn't ever gain enough toughness.

Decent for that at least...

Best to keep him as clerk, set precision to highest. If he manages to make it to his office, and starts updating stockpile records, he will surely gain enough toughness.

As mentioned, a yellow spine will never heal, lock him in his office and occasionally have dwarves toss in food and drink through the ceiling. If he goes hauling he will just drop the items halfway there, and no matter the toughness, a broken spine means he can only crawl(As far as I know).

Your clerk is never going to get up again, but that won't stop him from doing his job with the records.
