Can you build a fort somewhere safe with the bare necessities required to build some decent steel gear, a large mound of arrows, and some heavy bins. Abandon it, get an adventurer over there to put everything in the bins and luge them to the reclaim site, then reclaim with a pile of arrows and some decent gear waiting for them? (I am not sure if it works that way...)

Maybe you could improvise some drums and try to play along with the birds, or play some music and try to think of the squawking as an accompaniment. If you can find some sort of rhythm to their madness it may not be so annoying, but possibly more distracting...

I am sad today because I still haven't managed to control my compulsion to throw poorly thought-out advice at everything.

Maybe flood the thing if you have a pool or whatnot? Flood a section, drain it, open the doors to the next section, flood it and so on?
