My personal way of coping with what my therapist friend said was, quote, "Probably a lot of little-t traumas", is embracing a certain in-the-momentism. Probably a proper word for it, but acknowledging that the past has been and gone. Yes it affects me now, but I can't do *anything* about it. Past's beyond my reach so there's no point dwelling even if it has resulted in issues.

I've met... mixed success but it's better than the hopeless nostalgia and/or regret I've had previously.

Dunno, can't guarantee it'll work for you, or that you can achieve it, but it can't hurt right? Also this stuff takes a while, I made the mistake of expecting some miracle sudden mental reframing if someone said the right words. Turns out you have to want to make the change then keep on slowly eroding your old ways of thinking. It's a lot of persistent effort, so don't expect something to bop you on the head and change your life.

Embrace stoicism and practice not letting things that you have no influence over affect your state of mind. And yeah, that's no sudden Eureka! skill.

From my perspective it fades with time. Stuff still hurts, but with time hurts less. You'd think stuff happening again would hurt more, but at some stage it just hurts less. Look you get through this stuff by deciding what is important to you, and building your life around it, and by taking what hits you have to take and can not avoid.

Big row with dad, again. Because the dude is fucking pathological about having a say in everything. He told mom and sis that sure they can remodel a part of the bathroom as they see fit, out of their own pocket and everything. Now he's trying to convince us all that its a bad idea and shouldn't be done. Or if it's done it should be done the way he says because doing these things is harder than we can imagine and it will end up sucking/expensive because we didn't listen to him. And then the gaslighting, goalpost moving and playing the victim kicks into overdrive because we've all been trough this song and dance before. Every single time that something needed to be done it was at first a fight to have it done, and when we'd plan things out (like say drawing up a whole new kitchen) he'd have to come in and meddle with 'suggestions' and 'improvements' (despite being the only person who never uses the kitchen), and when it's all done and it comes out good he'll talk it up how good of an idea it was, completely glossing over the fact we had to fight him at every turn to have it done.

What's worse is that we're planning to get some new windows/glass doors for the balcony installed in the spring and it's going to be the same goddamn song and dance again.

Finished a rewatch of Bojack. Shorter than I remember, probably because I was watching it as it came out first time.

But yeah. I think part of the issue is that I've had very nasty mental health issues so it's a bit too relateable at times. I'm past most of them, but I still remember it. And it's a poignant show anyways.

I do wonder if Netflix is regretting cutting it a bit short given they've struggled getting good shows since everyone and their mothers started their own streaming service.

I watched the first season of Bojack, and then thought "Man that was pretty good, how much longer is it?" and was stunned to see there were FIVE more seasons. I thought that was a serious turnoff, how much content could they possibly squeeze out of this neurotic Horseman?

I don't know, I'm just not enjoying things very much recently. Maybe I'm getting depressed, maybe it's Choice Paralysis, maybe it's ADHD-like symptoms from the constant stimulation of media, maybe I'm just getting old and curmudgeony and can't help but see the flaws in everything. Whatever it is, it makes me really dread my own free time; atleast when I'm working I can singlemindedly focus on my task; when I'm not obligated to do anything, I just want to turn into inert sludge and stop thinking. That's not the way to claw my way out of unhappiness, but I guess I'm at peace with the fact that I'll just be unhappy forever.

Season 2 of Bojack is when the show really begins in my opinion and the events that happen in it are what the rest of the story end up revolving around. It genuinely does turn into a masterpiece of animated storytelling near the end. It amazes me that people were allowed to make a show like this.

If you feel like you need encouragement, just watch the first episode of season 2. It starts off strong. I feel like you in particular would like it.

Also the first season was done as a bit of a joke, I read. Make it seem like a standard kooky adult show then transition into the more serious, hard-hitting-but-still-comedic show it actually is. And they regretted running the joke for so many episodes.

It also gives us this:

"Has the concept of women having choices gone too far? We've arranged this diverse panel of white men in bow ties to discuss. Gentlemen?"

The question is being raised whether Los Angeles is going to be rebuilt, or perhaps abandoned. Insurance companies are hinting that real estate will no longer be insurable in the area. That would be the end of LA if that gets real.

don't you love that profit-motivated insurance companies get to decide where you get to live or if you get to be healthy?

speaking of, i need to call around and get a car insurance quote that hopefully won't run me $400 monthly for my nondescript 15 year old Camry

At this point would you even want the insurance. From what I've seen a ton of folks had their fire insurance dropped just as the fires were starting, so why the fuck would you even want to pay all that money only for the company to go 'lolnope' at the exact time you would need it. That really should be some sort of criminal charge trigger to shut down and jail the lot of the scumbags.

Just how broken does a system need to be where that shit that would be considered a grift by any sane person is not only apparently completely legal but also extremely effective at making the rich fucks even richer.

Turns out the Amish peoples had it right the whole time: That gambling is a sin, and that insurance is just a fancy means of gambling.

As with any gambling establishment, the house always wins (and the rest of society loses).

Yeah, huge bummer. He goes to join Log Lady in the hereafter.

Very few filmmakers ever gave me a true sense of mystery and the unknown like Lynch. He knew how to show just enough to bait your imagination. I'm just glad he got to make Twin Peaks again before he passed. He will be missed though.
