I'm not even sure if that's real - there's always a lot of rumor going around when this sort of thing happens unless you have an Abe Assassination moment where the guy gets immediately caught and tells everybody why he did it. Even if it is real, there's lots of reasons you would use that sort of thing to make a statement.

They already removed their CEO's bio from their corporate page:

 https://www.unitedhealthgroup.com/uhg/our-leaders/brian-thompson.html

Damn, he's barely cold and they already just removed him and their leadership info.

Now that's corporate being cold. Even if they had to take down the page, put up a memorial for a couple days..... Something.

Every part about this is horrible. How they treat him, and how the customer isn't treated. Just a mess all around.

Honestly that's entirely in line with the usual MO when it comes to health insurance leadership. They already let thousands die of preventable causes in the name of profit without losing a wink of sleep. Why waste time with crocodile tears when a new high-paying job just opened up?

Was going to say. That sounds like American Healthcare Insurance in a nutshell.

alternative stupid theory; the killer was a trained assassin - who was repeatedly denied coverage himself, or for a family member

The detail about the shells is from law enforcement officials investigating the incident.

I also don't understand your previous argument. You are conflating "the motive was a result of anger about coverage denial" and "this was a crime of passion/not premeditated." A motive originally stemming from anger doesn't imply the attack had to be a spur-of-the-moment thing. And there are enough customers of United Healthcare to make the odds that one of them had firearms training not terrible, though access to a suppressor is still odd.

I'd be surprised if the assassination was cause he accidentally blurted out something like "Maybe we shouldn't be such vile pieces of shit and actually use our money and power to help the world..." and a fellow CEO heard and worried there might be a humanitarian in their midst, and that he just HAD to go.

(I assume you meant you wouldn't be surprised).
Lolno, dude was the head of the company for multiple years. If he wasn't a profit greedy POS and was trying to make the company less evil that would have been visible by now.
---
Not everything is caused by conspiracies of rich people, poor and middle class people do their share of stuff as well.

A good rule of thumb is to look at it and say "Who benefits from this" if rich people or some company benefits in some way, they yeah, decent odds they are behind it.

Killing off CEOs/the rich very much does not benefits the ultra wealthy, and is in fact something they try hard to avoid.
After all, you don't want the poors to be getting ideas.
The odds of this being somebody upset over a coverage denial are slim. This guy used a suppressor, which is something that's just hard enough to get in the US that it is an unlikely tool for a crime of passion. He also methodically cleared the jams (likely caused by low-velocity ammunition - this makes the suppressor more effective but often won't cycle the action) without hesitation, which is not easy to do do so well even for somebody familiar with firearms. Not to mention that he seems to have fired three times (also dumping out three live rounds due to the mentioned jam-clearing) and hit with two of them. That's harder than you might think.

An angry person who wanted revenge for coverage denial would be much more likely to pull out a plain-Jane Glock or AR and dump bullets in the guy's general direction, not this extremely methodical and professional behavior.
I mean, the dude clearly had some degree of knowledge and firearm training, but this is America, we literally have more guns then people.
It doesn't need to be a paid assassin or anything, just a dude with some degree of knowledge (eg. see basically half the country) with a grudge against the company (eg. basically anyone who's actually gotten sick on their healthcare plan).

If it was an actual trained assassin he wouldn't have gunned the CEO down very visibly on a public street, that's hella stupid, and no actual assassin would do things that way.

As people have been pointing out, this whole thing is very cyberpunk.

Just further evidence we're living in the shitty future where we get the wealth disparity with none of the cool technology.

I mean, give it a few years? AI is getting big, drones are getting big, global warming is getting big, biotech is going bonkers, solar is growing like crazy.

Sure, right now we're a (hehe) flacid cyberpunk, but in ten years we could be any one of a vast variety of proper cyberpunk worlds.

Real AI running around a proper cyberpunk cyberspace? Sure.
Civilization collapsing due to global warming and the remnants driving around in solar powered mad-max esque vehicles? Why not.
Tens of millions of networked AI powered drones flying around culling any dissent in the name of Sam Altman/Elon Musk? Hopefully not but can't rule it out.
Gene modded/cloned babies and kids for the top 1% while adults can get 3d printed organs and have their diseases fixed by gene editing? Seems plausible.

Can I get my cyberlimbs though? That's what I want most. Maybe some not-quite-legit living between the cracks that can eventually lead to a big payout too with associated risk - Either I make it big or I die, and that's a win-win in the hellscape.

I mean, the dude clearly had some degree of knowledge and firearm training, but this is America, we literally have more guns then people.

The normal reaction to having your gun not go BANG when you pull the trigger is to pull it again, then inspect it to figure out what went wrong. This guy was cycling every other round so smoothly it didn't slow his fire rate at all. That's something that would take hundreds of hours of drill to prepare for, and very few gun owners would be able to do it. This isn't "some level of firearms training", this is practically John Wick level.
