It's... technically not the housing, but the land it's sitting on, which is why they're able to tell the folks on it to more or less fuck off.

The real "fun" starts in a few months when any number of them haven't been able to facilitate a move and the land owner starts suing them for not getting the mobile home off the property. That's the next step, incidentally. They might actually lose the house itself due to it being seized to pay off accrued legal fees related to the building still being in place :-\

I dunno the exact way it plays out, or if it's "legal fees" or not. I think it's damages whether or not the lawyer is involved because you usually pay your own legal fees in the US from what I get. So the landlord or trailer park owner or whoever would be the one paying the lawyer and they can't just shove that on the tenant unless there's something saying they can. Same deal how I can't just sue someone and hand them my lawyer's bill most of the time. I think it'll probably be more like they'll get sued to be forced to move it by a certain day and if they don't then they get fined or the amount they owe increases.

I can kinda almost see it, because it starts with "somebody can't have their house on your land," or whatever.
That kinda forgets that the person had their house there forever and was paying rent for it to be there.
Except now they're just booting them all off the everything for whatever reason.

Usually, and I'm not being judgmental or saying trailer parks are bad or whatever, but usually they put trailer parks on land nobody wanted for anything else. Now they've all of a sudden decided they want something else there. Seems weird.

That's why I said "abusable" laws. From the standpoint of the actual landowner, you don't want laws that say "you can't sell your property." A property owner should indeed have the ability to determine how that property is used.  You'd need all kinds of interesting laws about how property can be bought, leased, or sold to prevent abuse.

For example, you might have to consider rules about maximum parcel size; someone that can afford a mobile home likely wouldn't be able to buy the tens of acres to buy the entire mobile home park parcel. And zoning laws are in play, because they wouldn't break that parcel up into pieces that are more affordable for person with lower income. Do you want laws that would force someone to break the parcel up?

It's annoying because if you have laws that work fine if people are "decent people", they can be abused by others who aren't "decent."  If you try to make laws that prevent "non decent" people from doing bad things, you also typically make things difficult for "decent" people.

In this particular situation, perhaps a reasonable law would be to give all the tenants first right of refusal, so that if someone makes an offer on the property, the tenants would be able to make a competing bid and have the provision that a "tie" bid goes to the current lessors.  This sounds like there would be all kinds of corner cases though, so who knows.

Annoying all around...

As always, not legal advice. Any legal advice online is bad.

Landowner usually pays attorneys fees in these situations. Some state laws permit recovery from landlord for tenant's attorney's fees. Perhaps not here, but Florida's laws may vary. Mobile homes are often not classified as real estate/real property. Title may be automotive.  Advise against purchasing generally.

Affordable housing in the US is possible, but no one seems to want to actually do it.
Rural land + reliable transportation to cities.
Also, people seem to want mcmansions. NIMBY.

Not an actual offer, because nobody wants to do it anyhow
If jobs, utility connection grants, transportation (infrastructure + public bussing/train), and cheap rural land + remote work could happen, it would be possible to house 500 families (assuming 3 people per family) for an approximate cost of 37,500,000.
That would be 75,000, which again is nothing compared to the average house costing 400,000 today.
Now, these wouldn't be mcmansions at all. You're talking small houses with small bedrooms and small yards.
But if you do it right they'd have a small garden space and solar. You'd probably be in very rural areas though.
Location, location, location. "Back to the office" doesn't help here. Also, corporate landlords want to price high....

I'm starting a new job soon and I'm freaking out about it. I know how to do it pretty well generally.
I'm sure there are specifics to learn. I am doing really well at my old (current for now but not for long) job.
I'm lucky multiple managers have said they will miss me but are glad I get an opportunity. Bittersweet.
I know these people and have for years. Sometimes they piss me off, but not bad. It's familiar though.
I know what they're gonna do before they screw up because I've seen them do it before. I'm actually considered competent.
How did that happen?

Why the hell am I leaving for a new job? Budget cuts. Never ending budget cuts and staff cuts. Like 1/2 of us so far.
Everyone in it agrees it is turning bad because the newer person in charge just doesn't care and wants people to leave.
I keep fixing crap but you can't fix people being driven out and even local management is complaining about cuts.
Shit is slow motion hitting the fan. They aren't stopping it and they are leaning into it just worse.

I've been sober for years, and all my friends and family ever want to do is drink. They're dicks about me being designated driver.
Work was one of the few stable things in my life. Now that's changing to a new different environment. It should be stable but new.
I don't do much but work, because it's better than trouble. My old friends just wanna get drunk and I don't. It sucks.
Meeting new people as an adult sucks. Covid did not help. Who do you even trust? I need to fake interest in this for ice breakers and intros.

I'm glad and lucky to have a job, but wow.

This is the sad thread. When people post here, it's usually because shit has gotten real. I'm surprised Flying Teasets didn't elaborate more about their condition because this is THE place on the forum to vent about it and find an understanding audience. Perhaps they were waiting for someone to ask more questions and are disappointed that nobody did.

The mildly upset thread was created specifically to facilitate more light-hearted discussions on sadness including jokes, and to avoid misunderstandings like yours in front of a vulnerable audience.

I should hope not. If so my condolences. Hopefully there might be some treatment, depending upon what it actually is.
Hopefully it isn't serious. I'd prefer that to anyone dying in any way. Stranger things have happened.

Understandable. Zen. Done once; do again. My old advice is still true. You know the thread....

"I'm lucky multiple managers have said they will miss me but are glad I get an opportunity."

Remember my lesson on, letters of recommendation? Politely ask for one from these managers and if they will serve as a reference. Infiltrated; now exfiltrate, intelligently. Then integrate into new workplace. Thereby retaining pluses from old place while avoiding issues by being in new place. Always building resume, references, and professional connections. Your fear is understandable; it's cause is not controllable; your response may be. (Difficult though it may well be).

Socialization is difficult; alcohol temptations are real. Admittedly difficult, but not hopeless. Once you get stable, you might consider cautious socialization with board game nights, and related matters. Perhaps not immediate, but hope exists.

Same advice holds true; form foundation, build from there. Stability, then building, then more. Hang in there.

In a somewhat similar vein, my assistant is moving on, and while I helped her do so, my letter of recommendation to her made it clear she would be missed here.

"Ms. [Redacted]'s open mind gladly takes instruction, and gives loyal competent work. Solution & support despite setbacks, dedication and diligence showing definitively, and much more validate my full conviction she will benefit any organization so fortunate as to have her. She repays small kindnesses tenfold and has never once so much as thought  to abuse any privilege she has earned. I fully vouch for her skills, having instructed and seen them for years. I mentored her through multiple certifications [redacted]. I would work with her again and will gladly do so if the opportunity arises. Please feel free to call with any comments or questions at [redacted]. The person reading this letter should hire her, before someone else does."

Some bean counter with a spreadsheet and no brains decided to cut budget, thus driving talent to the competition....
Not sure who hurt this bean counter to make them such a moron, but one wonders if they should perhaps finish the job.

Yeah, I'm in a sad mood in general now, I think I can safely say. I can also safely say I'm not depressed, I'm pretty sure. It's not got the usual aspects of depression. I've still got drive to do things I enjoy and I'm not getting the brain fog or apathy. It's like a sort of high-functioning sadness, as it were. And much more melancholic, it's very pensive rather than being... just a thing.

Maybe it's university, maybe it's some sort of SAD, maybe I'm beginning to process my accumulated mini-traumas from my life having a good number of shit-but-not-regular-trauma-shit problems. Don't know, could probably do with some bloody therapy if I could afford it.

Currently dying.
Genuine question, as in you've had one of those moments of comprehension of your mortality and slow and inevitable death, or as in you've had some bad news about a disease or something? Because what the response is to be is very different in both those scenarios.

Well fuck, the assignment that I've not started on (Combo of my usual last-minute self and having other assignments) that I thought was due in a week on Monday isn't. It's due *this* Monday. I also stressed myself out too much to work on it today by a combination of over-caffeination, discovering that the assignment was due in on Monday, and choosing the worst of the four topics which I thought would be easy because it seemed interesting. It would be, if I could find any supporting statistics, but it seems that there's no actual scientific articles supporting what needs to be said, just a bunch of supposition and heavily biased reporting. It's not a case of "I want X to be the case but everything is saying Y", it's "I need to find out X but nobody's actually done any research or analysis on it, so all we've got left is the yellow journalism". Which is fine for an online debate, it's not fine for third year STEM coursework.

Are you able to change the topic you’re doing it on? I did that a few times when I was at university, choosing to answer a question for an assignment and then realizing it was a lot more difficult to answer the question than I expected, so I did another one instead.

Yeah, I plan to. Got a choice of four, so I'm swapping it out. It's just a pain in the arse to already be stressing out, then just have something like that stress me out more.

Seems third year is a lot more freeform on the assignments, either giving us multiple choices or just letting us have a go at whatever we want.

Rule of law/social structures already breaking down.  CEO of a major US health insurance company was assassinated today.

Because I'm sure that is actually going to make your health care costs go down and/or give you justice for whatever health-insurance-related harm you or a loved one suffered.

No doubt out there somewhere is some actuary who's job it is to determine what the odds of civil unrest is, and how that should effect the price of people's premiums.
