The big hack of police data a few days ago apparently was not done by dutch criminals.
According to our intelligence agencies, the hack was done 'by another country'.

Names, assignments, functions, email adresses, telephone numbers and in some cases home adresses and private data of at least 65000 police officers and partners of the police were stolen.

The hackers gained access to a Microsoft Outlook file used for the police's internal communication.

I almost want to say 'serves them right for entrusting their data to a Microsoft program'.

The police's Union calls it 'a nightmare scenario', and have opened a reporting point for worried police. They have been flooded with worried calls ever since.

I have always lacked social intuition. My parents, teachers and anyone who has done as much as observe me a little can testify for this. I struggle greatly with conversing. Talking is no problem. I can talk. I can express myself and describe things when prompted. I can crack jokes and been told that I am funny. I have even been told I am good at talking...

The key words above are "when" and "prompted." I can do it, but. Only. When. Prompted. Only when necessary. Only when required. Meaningless small talk (spontaneous exchange of unessential/readily apparent/mostly mundane information to signify socialising intent and friendliness, used to form and strengthen bonds) is not a thing for me.

I struggle with small talk, basically. I absolutely hated the concept and wanted others to conform to my standards when I was an angsty young teenager. Now, as an angsty young adult, I realise that neither of the ways are more superior than the other. I was very, very cringe. And I am still cringe, but it is much less toxic now.

I can't help but feel a bit envious about how easy and instinctive others find forming/maintaning bonds to be. It is exceedingly difficult for me. They always have a thing to talk about. They always have thing to say. They can keep interacting for hours on end. I can't. I do the greeting, then run out of relevant information to relay, and then just... can't do anything like a gun out of ammo.

I usually talk to who I consider to be prized acquaintances when I need something. And I am not stupid; I can see how that looks like from their and a potential third party perspective. Someone that uses them when he needs things done or got, and otherwise contributes nothing to their lives. I don't wanna be that. I don't wanna look like a piece of shit. I am not a piece of shit. Am I?

I dunno. It is all too confusing.

I just watched something regarding the math of energy consumption of civilization. If the math was right, it says the amount of fossil fuels we use every year would require 100 times the mass of all present life on the planet.

That's probably a pretty reasonable order of magnitude estimate...but wow is it sobering.

Do you care about their lives, their interests, and how they're doing outside of your immediate needs?

ETA: To expand, what I mean by this is... when people tell you what they're up to, do you feel that you care about it and are interested, or do you just dismiss it as uninteresting unwanted information that gets in the way of what you think really matters?

I don't know... But I am not disinterested. I might value brewity, but that doesn't means I only care about practicality. I try to generate topics on the fly like they do. But I fail.

It isn't logical, in the end. It isn't a care problem. It is a brain wiring problem. I want to forge connections but lack the tools that people use to do it.

Try randomly asking people you care about how they're doing or what they're up to, then. Like, when you're looking at your phone and happen to notice someone in your contact list you haven't thought about lately, or whatever the situation for you may be... send a quick message like that.

I do. But that's not what 'normal' people want to talk about. They want to talk about football, tits, and how fuckable the girl walking past the pub is. I want to talk about humanitas, politics, sociology, science and am genuinly interested in what is important in their life. But that apparently makes me a weird autist who needs to be shunned because he doesn't want to talk about football and putting a dick in women.

I think it just means you need to find people who aren’t more interested in the aesthetics of whom they insert their penis and football than what you want to talk about.

Ugh, another module with the lecturer whose style of teaching doesn't blend with me well at all. Once again, she seems to expect everyone to be very outgoing and self-motivated and the lectures/seminars are more along the lines of a "coming-together" where we do an awful lot of stuff talking with people we hardly even know, and in my case, rarely get along with because I out-age everyone here and most people are... I dunno, kid-like? I've gone and gotten old. At least, I've gone and gotten old in a university context.

And I'm sure covid did something to people who were in school when the lockdowns happened. Youth culture feels especially impenetrable right now.

In my long-term straitlaced impression , the western teaching mode is always full of mechanisms that make students extraverted and willing to discuss , and every student is so outgoing that those who are often keeping silent are considered weird , that is common in your uni ,right ? It's lucky that you are just having class with the 'kid-like' fellows ,due to the unreasonable dormitory arrangement systerm of the school , I, with the other 4 same-age guys lived with a bro who is 4 years than me, however the generation gap is small ,as time flies , I found him friendly and easy to get along with .

I do believe that you can get along with them well , give it a try . If not , you can always change the teacher or choose another class to study . ;D

It's worthy to mention that this 'outgoing mode' is easy to be seen here , my elements' chemistry professor ,my analytical chemistry experiment teacher and pharmaceutical English teacher are always willing to carry out a flipped class , which lets students coorperate in groups , present a lecture in public and the professors will just listen in the audience , giving suggestions and scoring us . Anyway , I found it beneficial and helpful .

It's not common, at least not in my degree, it's this specific lecturer who does this. Dunno why, but I get a feeling it's that it's her attitude and behaviour and she projects it onto the class too.

i dunno, the subsection of people that want to put a football in someone sounds like a pretty interesting bunch

I'm in one of my downward mood swings, they come and go and this has definitely been at it for the past week or so. So yeah, the usual mess - Feeling lonely, like a permanent third wheel, generally a bit sad.

I also think I have to face the fact that one of my best friends has ghosted me for reasons completely unbeknownst to me. Guy just stopped responding to messages out of nowhere. It's not the first time, but previously he's done that when he's been feeling kind of shit himself so I did a bit of checking on things and no, apparently he's doing absolutely fine, just not responding to me at all and I can't even find out why, and hasn't been responding for about a third of a year when a once weekly/fortnightly chat would be the norm.

So yeah, just a bit shit now.

EDIT: Definitely in one of my bummed out moods. I'm feeling melancholic as fuck the day after.

I am still absolutely fucking livid though...

Guess who is still absolutely fucking livid? ME!

I calm down for a day or two, then start ruminating again. It is like a volcano. I am definitely living up to my online name these days.

It is just so... have you ever been threatened like this? What did that made you feel? Is there a way to calm down or am I in a collision course to do some horrible, horrible shit that will definitely make the news around here?
