Yeah, just... my condolences, I guess, on the relatively mundane or troublesome dreams? Condolences isn't quite the right word, but it's something adjacent.

It's something that lands kinda' personally, because I'd give pretty good odds on having killed myself by now if my dream brain wasn't so good to me. It's like the sole and solitary part of human biology that isn't some variety of regularly miserable for me, and basically the only thing that makes sleep something other than low-key torture. If I didn't have consistently awesome dreams, I'd be a hell of a lot worse off :-\

They use words like "pressure" and "expectations." Which, yeah, those are part of a real relationship.

After going to the gym for a year, aren't I supposed to feel better about how I look?

There isn't a simple answer to this. There's so many factors involved. Most of them though are probably directly related to your outlook. Where did you expect to be? Are you being realistic? Are you being fair to the progress you have made? Are you being honest with yourself about what you've done, or didn't do, in that year?

It's so very easy to continue throwing your physique under the bus because you haven't hit some standard you set for yourself. Don't focus on the end goal you're chasing in your head. Focus on the small bits of progress you've made.

I know like in terms of numbers and stuff that I'm in the best shape of my life.

What I mean is, I cannot see myself in a mirror and not take psychic damage.

Try comparing yourself to fit men of the 60s and 70s. That helped me a lot.

Our modern idea of "fit" is poisoned by extremely exaggerated and frankly unhealthy bodybuilders.

Everyone who is now paying attention to themselves feel that way. Everyone deals with some level of body dismorphia, even stupidly fit people. Remember: you are the best version of yourself that has yet existed. Focus on that truth and keep at it!

Own yourself, also. The only person that can make you feel bad about you is you.

And FWIW, it took me probably 2 years of consistency and commitment before I really started noticing changes. The first year was me feeling stronger and more energetic. Year 2 is where I both started to see myself losing weight and putting on muscle. It's a process but you can't complete it if you psyche yourself out early.

It’s more to let you know you’re not alone in how you feel.

I mean, if you want to take everything in the worst possible way, that’s your prerogative. Ain’t nobody pulled themselves out of a hole by obsessing over being in a hole though.
