'Tis a new year.

This one kinda sucked, and I can't see the next one being any less sucky any time soon.

Is it bad that even though 2020 was a nightmare I'm still considering it an improvement on 2019? <_<

2019 was the year where I was broken repeatedly.

But I came out of it a better person. 2020 was fairly stable for me, ironically enough.

2020's clusterfuck is statistically unlikely to repeat.

Probably because at least with 2019 you had some level of control over what goes on, where 2020 was essentially lock up and do nothing or probably die.  It just feels like wasted potential.

Lentils are pretty fucken dope. I cracked open one of the cans of 'em that had been sitting in the pantry for ages the other day.
I always figured they were more of an, I don't know, advanced ingredient favoured by folks who know how to make proper curries or soups or whatever, but I just chucked them in where I'd normally have beans+chickpeas and it turned out good. Beans, chickpeas and lentils? Even better!
I used to eat a lot of canned beans but they're heavily salted and a bit pricier, so in quarantine its been mostly dry beans.  They keep forever and cook pretty easily, particularly if I soak them in the rice cooker on warm for an hour or so.

Greens are the real problem, I largely have to rely on canned ones.

But oooh I should have picked up one of those bags of like a dozen different dry beans!  Those are so good, and often come with a little package of salty seasoning.  I know I was whining about them, but beans are actually great, and variety helps a lot.

Lentils with pork and onion is a heavenly stuff
Frick, I should have picked up more onion powder too!  I'm almost out!

Is that a USA thing? I've never seen canned beans with added salt here, but I found it's a common complaint on the internet (how many conversations about beans can you really have, caz? the answer is quite a lot.)

Maybe a North American thing?  It's true for Goya too.  The beans are basically in a brine along with chemicals that keep the beans from turning into slush.  It's easy not to notice the salt once you're used to eating them, but it's still there.

Not that salt is entirely a bad thing!  But it leads to over consumption and you should only eat so much of it.

Tinned beans can be pretty salty down here in Africa too. Preeeetty salty. Have to rinse them to use them, almost, unless I don't salt anything else.

I have never seen anything canned with salt here, spam being the only exception.

I'm curious as to how a tank would evolve. Would it climb out of the primordial ooze wiggling it's track-nubs, feeding on smaller jeeps before crawling onto the shore having evolved proper treds?
