Oh, I would LOVE for the US to finally acknowledge that mass transit between states is a great thing, and embrace the Euro-train-system model.  Doing that with electric mass transit would do wonders!

But then again-- No VROOMVROOM, and that sexual inadequacy DEMANDS placation!

I don’t know why we don’t do trains, the tracks still exist. I agree that this would be a good idea.
Why do you keep bringing up sexual inadequacy? I thought people didn’t like their cars to be loud

(~4 million people live in Los Angeles, or a little over 1% of the US population total. In ONE city. When you then consider places like NewYork (8.6million, or ~2% of US population, in one city.)

Those are rookie numbers in this business, you gotta pump those up.

Lagos has a population estimated at 21 million in 2016

Cairo is Egypt’s largest city and capital. It is heralded as the cradle of civilization. It has a population of over 20.4 million.

Once a site of fishing and trading villages, Kinshasa is now a megacity with an estimated population of more than 11 million.

or a little over 1% of the US population total. In ONE city

Quote
The population of South Africa is about 57.7 million people
Quote
Cape Town's 2019 population is now estimated at 4,524,111

~7%.

Quote
Nigeria is one of the most densely populated countries in Africa, with approximately 200 million people

Lagos population: ~21 million, percentage: over 10.

I dunno what your conception of Africa is that you think a city of 4 million is a lot for us, but I suggest you update that.

Americans have a love affair with SUVs.

Again, 80% of US residents live in cities, and have no legit need to drive an SUV as their primary vehicle.

Despite that, SUVs outsold normal cars in 2018 by a fair amount.
https://santanderconsumerusa.com/blog/most-popular-suvs-trucks-cars-in-america-right-now

Why buy a vehicle that:

1) Costs more to drive
2) Costs more to insure
3) Costs more to service
4) Is louder
5) Pollutes more

If you live (statistically) in a city, and cannot get highway mileage?

This scares me. Honestly, if the government was imposing such drastic measures like "no electricity, no running water, nothing modern", I'd much rather end myself rather than live in a world stuck in the Dark Ages.

AND-- since you brought it up--

Even IF all the power generated going into EVs was generated by coal, the efficiency increase over gasoline engines would at the least cut (our) CO2 emissions in half.
https://cleantechnica.com/2018/03/10/electric-car-myth-buster-efficiency/

Quote from: from that article:
not counting the efficiency of the power generation

Of course, let's ignore the single most important aspect. Let's ignore everything that doesn't suit our narrative. That's a very reliable piece of journalism.

Let me state my position clearly. I 'm not against electric vehicles, they can and should become the future of our transportation. But let's not fool ourselves, we won't magically save the planet by buying one. With the current state of affairs it doesn't matter what type of vehicle you use, because all of them burn fossil fuels.

Increasing the efficiency is a stop gap measure. It's helping of course but doesn't solve the problem.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fossil_fuel_power_station

COAL & Oil: ~ 36% energy efficiency

Gas powered: ~56 - 60%

(Which is pretty fucking close to the Carnot efficiency maximum of 64%, which *ALL* thermal difference engines are subject to.)
https://www.e-education.psu.edu/egee102/node/1942

Internal combustion engine: "Big news!" improvement, up to 38%.
https://www.greencarreports.com/news/1091436_toyota-gasoline-engine-achieves-thermal-efficiency-of-38-percent

(but if we are gonna be picking nits on this, you also have to factor in the fuel expense costs of shipping the refined fuel to gas stations, vs shipping it via rail to the power plant, and also the % waste at the refinery.)

So, how many dirty plants are coal/oil, and how many are nat-gas in the US?
27.4% in 2019 for coal
35.1% in 2019 for NatGas
https://www.eia.gov/tools/faqs/faq.php?id=427&t=3

(with ~40% being various "other" not from fossil fuel.)

So whoosh batter. try again.

There's a joke here, but I'm a little uncertain how to finish it... So, rather than do it myself, I'll provide you (the audience) with a list of three choices, and you can pick whichever punchline you prefer.

Here are the options (in varying degrees of poor taste):
It's gotta be that roomy trunk space for all them groceries
  • Magnum condoms
  • High-caliber fully automatic assault freedoms
  • Children

......

Can you even understand what the data you just quoted say?

63% of US's electricity is produced using some form of conventional fuel (coal, oil or natural gas).  63% of the increased demand for electricity, that would result from swapping to electric cars, would have to be covered by those very same power plants. It might be better than burning fuel directly into your car but the pollution is still there, spewing out from each power plant.

If you want to push for something, push for swapping to renewable energy sources.
