It's my birthday!
I know that feeling, mang. Felt that way about my most recent birthday... just focus on all the good moments of the past year, no matter how minor.
May your coming year have even more good moments! :)

@GO: I disagree with you, but this isn't really the place for such a potentially volatile derail, so meh.

It's really far from what greatorder meant at first anyway. There's nothing wrong with being offended for being called racist when it doesn't quite apply. The real issue is saying that whatever someone else said when disagreeing with you is wrong because of that one wording mistake.

Considering it's usually thrown out to shut down discussion and as an ad hominem fallacy, no there isn't. There's no way to defend oneself against a false accusation of racism other than to point out that it's not racism or about race.

So many people basically go "Yeah, but all of [religion] is [Y]", someone tells them they're being racist (Usually racist because we don't really have another word for it), then they pull the "Ackshually" thing and don't bother with an actual bloody refutation because they like to think that because they said that, they don't have to defend their position, when they're tarring everyone following the religion with the same brush. It's fucking stupid.

I find that what is fucking stupid is expecting people to defend themselves against something else than what is being levelled at them. If you don't want to make the discussion about whether they are being racist or not then don't make the discussion about racism by calling them racist.

I've been sleeping 3 hours per night because we need to hunt down the appointments to our documents.

The car scratch will be paid 50-50, of which my half will be paid upfront and I'll pay on parts depending on how much income I can spare for it. At least it will not be a hard blow at once.

I am just totally mentally exhausted. I'm coming up on the end of my goal of a degree and I have a million things to do and hardly any will power. I need to get long term stuff done but I have no time in between stuff to do. When I do have time I can hardly muster up the energy to get stuff done. The end of the semester cant come fast enough. I does not help that every time I turn on the news its more awful.

Stay strong. It might be best to take some time to rest and focus before you dive back into the deep, but if you keep making steady progress, you'll make it through. Try to enjoy it (don't force yourself to), that'll make everything 90% easier to focus on

I'm taking a gap year. Going to spend some time working in the field hopefully. That's one of those long term things though. The type of work makes it difficult to know stuff ahead of time. Everything has worked out for me so far. I always manage it. There is noting difficult just everything coming up to the finish and fast. its morning to night every day then a few days of free time to work on stuff and my temporary job. I'm burning out. And reading papers on the worlds problems then seeing people do the exact wrong things really stretches my optimism.

This happened a couple days ago, but I'm still stunned at myself: That I was speaking with someone new, and they told me their name, and I forgot their name literally within seconds of them telling it to me and ontop of that I called them a name I had apparently conjured out of my imagination. I'm constantly worrying that my mind is falling apart, and anything that confirms that fear has me aghast for my future.

Well that's the annoying thing about information like that and social anxiety: it's an important piece of information which you can't just focus on because people go on and on, and you're already in a heightened state because you're doing something uncomfortable. You're bound to forget or misremember.

I had a stint working on a reception desk (really not a good fit for me) and any time a customer came in to see someone working in the building I always had to write down their name immediately because in the seconds it took to phone the person they were here to see I'd have forgotten their name ("Hi, it's <my name> on reception, I have.. one sec.. sorry, what did you say your name was?").  And yeah, I'm pretty sure social anxiety (or similar) played a big part in that.

But hey, 15 years later with the reception desk a distant memory my mind hasn't fallen apart yet (well, not in cognitive or memory terms), though I still have to write everything down whenever anyone phones me with a query at work.

That's super common Josh... Don't sweat at it. I'm ultra  bad with both names and faces, most of the time I'm either not paying attention hard enough or I say my name at the same time so I can't heard theirs.

It took me around 4~6 months to learn my future's wife last names properly back when we meet, and that's taking into account I was(and still are) really into her.

Waking up and not being able to feel your legs kinda sucks. I got the day off, though, and I have surgery again wednesday, so there's that.

Maybe you should stop kicking people to death.

Or, like, kicking buildings into smithereens, like you’re George from Rampage.

For srs though, that’s probably a moderately unsettling thing to wake up to. Feel better soon, min.
