That's terrifying.  I'm very reluctantly moving, myself, and constantly worrying about outlandish possibilities.  Your reality is worse than what my anxiety came up with.  I'm sorry that happened ):

And today the sellers decide this is taking too long, back out, and put the house back on the market.

My mother is the same way. Over the summer I had to fend her off strongly pushing me to consider dropping my therapist and looking for a new one. Her solution? Restart the process of looking for a therapist (which took two entire miserable years) because 'two months without results' seemed too long to her.

I mean I'll admit that I'm entirely too willing to hold onto an idea, but come the fuck on.

So, the EU is possibly introducing some draconian anti-internet laws. Why does NOWHERE have ANY desire to just... let it be?

What's this about this time?

I can't even talk to people in my college computer science class. It's safe to assume most of the people in the class are going to be some degree of nerdy and I can relate to them, but even that doesn't help me to actually reach out and try talking to them and make connections.

It's frustrating and pathetic. I can't make friends, I can't socialize, I can't start conversations or make small talk without really forcing myself to. I feel like I'm trapped in a shell.

I know it's supposed to get easier and I can only learn by doing it but my God it's just so excruciating.

This time it's in the name of updating copyright.

In effect it would allow them to filter internet traffic at will. Or at a company's will, enforced through them.

Can I please have some links to this, I have some European acquaintances that might care about that :-/

I've actually been reading a lot of books from that era lately. I read Viktor Frankl's 'Man's Search For Meaning' which describes his own time in the holocaust as a victim. Really chills ya, makes you feel like nobody could ever imagine something that awful ever happening to people, let alone some of them surviving it.

I also just finished reading 'The End of Economic Man' which describes how it was even possible for the Nazi's to gain political power when they were a totally negative and hateful group from start to finish. It also describes how the economic system was going to be structured in a fascist totalitarian state, which was interesting in it's own right.

I wonder how it compares to the Gulag Achipelago? That's a pretty horrifying read too, though I only have book one of the three.

*whisper* the word on the street is they are going to ban MILF porn...  apparently someone posted some lewd pictures of Frau Merkel and the German goverment was not amused.

They've discussed banning all porn before in the EU. It's probably a really bad idea. Prohibition is usually more harmful than just allowing stuff.

In this case, the evidence is that rape is negatively correlated with porn availability. For example, in the USA there's a solid correlation between the rate at which rape incidents declined in all 50 states of the USA vs the rate at which internet access became available, and while other violent crimes also declined in the time period, only rape shows a particularly strong correlation to the spread of internet access per state. So ... internet access deters rape but not murder. Seems likely that porn fills the demand for sexual gratification, reducing other outlets. Getting rid of porn will be a feel-good thing for the anti-sex faction of feminism and Christian conservatives, but mean more women are victims of sexual assault as the hidden cost.

https://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/all-about-sex/201601/evidence-mounts-more-porn-less-sexual-assault
http://www.slate.com/articles/arts/everyday_economics/2006/10/how_the_web_prevents_rape.html

So, typical situation where good intentions could lead to horrible consequences. The data is available, so if they still persist you need to wonder about their claimed goals: really about helping women or is it really more about societal/cultural control, with the left and right-wing anti-sex people allying temporarily, but with different end goals?
