could have been worse. Even low dose percocet turns me into a narcoleptic zombie.  I tend to prefer lower dose OTC analgesics over those high power things

TBH it depends on the nature of the pain. Sometimes you get surprises. I've seen people trying to control pain from anal ulcers with morphine until they got dizzy and puked... only to take a tab of ibuprofen the next day and feel fine.

Best friend's mom, who I have known for at least 15 years, had to go to the hospital recently.  She was apparently delirious, hadn't been eating and hadn't been drinking.

At the hospital she was diagnosed with dehydration, and advanced lung cancer.  After trying a few days to get her white blood cell count up so they could even begin to try to treat the cancer they have sent her to a hospice.  Apparently she is simply not improving to the point where they can treat her cancer, so she is being moved to the hospice for long term care.

Unfortunately, while they pretty it up, I understand hospices are where they send people with terminal illnesses that cannot be treated.  And I'm not entirely certain my friend realizes that.   He needs to make preparations, but at the same time I don't want to burst his bubble, especially if I'm wrong.  And there is the possibility that he does know, and that he's simply putting his best hopes forward and I don't want to break that either.

Yeah, hospices are indeed the place they send the dying to. Your friend likely knows that too, hospitals (at least over here) tend to make it absolutely clear to the direct relatives what a hospice means. He doesn't need to make preparations. He needs to spend some last days with his mom (or maybe more than days, but what you describe, delirious, not eating, not drinking, too low white blood cell count, I'd count on days, not weeks), before he regrets he hasn't. Denial is something you better save for after someone's dead.

Yea he's already left to spend some time with her and took time off of work.

I was more concerned about preparations because her retirement was paying a very large chunk of the household's expenses.  His sister and niece both live with him and his mom, and both of them are long term unemployed. He's the only one employed, and while he makes more than me, It's telecommute, so it's not enough to support 3 people.  So it's not like he has money for funeral preparations or anything.  Probably can't even pay the hospital bill.

Dang, that's harsh. Looks like sister and or niece are going to HAVE to find a job now. That, or he could rent out a room.

Why not?

Well... why is it not good, rather than why have you not been around.

Hey, I shall also offer hugs to any of you who might need them.
Been giving an unusual amount of supportive hugs over the last... several hours, so I feel like I'm in the right zone for it. My e-shoulder is also available for crying on.

So there's a couple girls in the neighborhood around 9 years old that my kids play with sometimes.  They have a history of telling lies about people and stirring up drama.  Not too long ago, they accused a local black kid (autistic - very awkward/socially unaware/incapable of knowing how to respond) of stealing money off their friend's desk.  Went around actively telling anyone in the neighborhood who would listen that he did this for a couple days, until it came out that the kid's mom had simply moved it while cleaning.

My 12 year old son just came home to warn us that they were demanding him and his brother do daredevil-ish stuff that they weren't comfortable doing.  When they refused and tried to leave, they grabbed their bikes and wouldn't let them.  They then threatened my 12 year old that they would tell their parents and the police that he sexually assaulted them.

So... just had a conversation with their mom.  Thankfully, she was understanding about it, didn't believe that anything had actually happened, and had some explanation as to things they'd witnessed recently that would have inspired them to do something like that.  Rather relieved that we were able to get ahead of this, and probably prevent it from turning into something more.  Sad that we have to witness first-hand the kind of stuff that's used as ammo against social progress, and know that if we didn't act quickly to communicate and build an understanding ahead of anything else happening, that it easily could turn into something serious in today's legal environment.

I mean... I dealt with bullying when I was a kid... a lot... people using threats to get their way... but nothing like that.

Seen similar stings.... Ruins real report responses....

Got job, duties already changing (ed), will attempt skill set expansion...? [Sigh]. Bait, and switch? Already avoiding office politics, and focusing on fire extinguishing. Would be lovely if the gasoline throwing would slow down a tad so I could put out the fires, but no....

Want crappy duplex to fix up and rent half out. Had decent one selected; it got "taken off the market," but not sold...? :( Old slanders screwing me? Meh. Not sure if even possible to buy, but as a foreclosure, perhaps. O well.

Personally I love being told, "You have an impossible job; good luck you poor bastard."

Right, maybe some up armor, particularly on the back? For the knives? No? So Snafu then? Fantastic. :)

I will make this work anyhow. :D It won't be boring. Once again, they keep asking if I'm married or have kids.... Necessary lies. :)
