Actually improving your education might count as civil disobedience these days...

This seems like such a sad thing to say in the context.

I am sad because I don't know what will happen if I do apply for US citizenship.

In Canada, right wing extremists attacked a mosque in Quebec, killing 6 people and wounding 8, of whom some are in critical condition. According to eye-witnesses, an unknown number of gunmen entered the mosque and opened fire at the 40-ish people present there for the evening prayer.
Two gunmen have been arrested.

The Canadian prime minister condemned the act, and called it a terrorist attack.

The New York police have responded by sending protective details to all mosques and other prayer houses. Mayor Bill Blasio Twittered that the city and police will protect all muslims. "We shall fight all hate and prejudice".

Sounds like now although they took two men in, one of them was actually the guy who called 911.  So it was just a lone crazy guy.

Yep, the Moroccan guy has been released, and the police stated that he was just a witness. The other man, Alexandre Bisonette, is still in custody as a suspect.

Cape Town dams hit 40% recently. Out of a few million residents, apparently 65% of our usage is by 20 000 households. It makes trying to save water seem a bit futile, sometimes...

Work was a massive pain today, physically and metaphorically. Bad enough to have blistered heels and sore limbs, but throw a 2-hour-long traffic jam and garbage assignments into the mix...!

That feel when you're up at night trying to fix your terrible code design decisions before the deadline hits you and you embarrass yourself before people who rely on you at work, while simultaneously procrastinating because you're honestly kind of a garbagey person, and your local facebook analogue serves you an ad that says, "DON'T UNDERSTAND PROGRAMMING AT ALL? WE CAN TEACH YOU".

...If only you knew my life, sweet ad. If only you knew.

I dunno if I should be whining about this. I am getting paid. I am enjoying my work and learning a lot. Learning fucking hurts, though. At this pace, at least. I am constantly confronted with my own terribleness, and it's doing a number on my already fragile nerves/ self-esteem/ whatever else I have.

Oh no. :(
Hang in there Bork, I can't exactly cure cancer but I will always lend a sympathetic ear (or eye, technically) if you need to talk to someone.
Best of luck to your family.

What happened?
You probably know already, but many types of cancer are treatable with a good success rate. I hope there's still hope?

How recently was it discovered? If signs have been found early, that makes treatment all the more likely to succeed.

My time spent at community college has not reset my grace period for student loans. Now I'm going to have to pay them back, and I haven't even graduated yet. And I need probably 1 and a half more years worth of classes before I can. Which I'm probably shooting myself in the foot to get financed for.
