@Caroline:

Inadequate rest and excessive stress are both defined as epidemic issues by various health organizations. You are not alone, nor is your situation supposed to be a normal one. You shouldn't "Just push through", that is reserved for the most dire times.

That said, it sounds a lot like your situation is being exacerbated significantly by both those around you and the severe stress you seem to have been dealing with for as long as I can remember you posting here. Like, I'm not sure if anyone's told you, but even fairly low levels of stress can be significantly harmful if they continue for very long, let alone severe issues within your family.

Stress physically harms you, and it's not your fault if you can't keep functioning through it together. You need downtime, everyone needs downtime.

That, said, rest and not doing stuff while many stuffs need doing are not necessarily the same thing. For myself, I find that browsing the internet or playing games does very little to rejuvenate me, really just having the effect of maintaining my current levels of stress/tiredness. My recommendation, in my fully qualified capacity as a random guy on the internet with a few pet theories and some books on tape from an unusually nerdy road trip, would be to get some physical exercise and then sleep.

Heiterverzweiflung. Not a legit German word so much as something a friend and I made up in German class once. "Carefree despair". When life is so fucked that you can't stop laughing.

Argh, nothing but bad dreams last night. From traffic accidents, to armed assault, to murder via hydraulic crusher. Stupid brain.

I can't sleep in my bed because the pain in my neck makes it extremely difficult to get back up again. Time for another night of not-sleeping in the reclining chair while I wait for the tylenol to kick in.

I wonder if that cat is going to feel unaccountably peckish for the rest of its life now.

If you're me, dedicate yourself to some random creative project for a bit. Or read - books have got me through some of my worst times. Escapism ftw.

I'm sad.
What do?
Read.  Play video games.  Sleep.  Drink a hot beverage (tea's a favorite of mine, and 'tis the season for hot chocolate).  Do any combination of the above.

Also, if you wouldn't leave your house otherwise, I heavily recommend going outside a little. According to my own experience, you'll feel even worse if you spend your whole day in the same few rooms.

And whatever you do, don't think too hard about ocean acidification.  Don't think about it.   >:(

This, too. Go for a walk - it really is surprising the improvement in mood it can produce sometimes.

If you're me, dedicate yourself to some random creative project for a bit.
No inspiration.
Or read - books have got me through some of my worst times.
Read.
No books either.
Play video games.
Don't want. ;-;
Sleep.
Can't.
Drink a hot beverage (tea's a favorite of mine, and 'tis the season for hot chocolate).
That's not helping.
Also, if you wouldn't leave your house otherwise, I heavily recommend going outside a little. According to my own experience, you'll feel even worse if you spend your whole day in the same few rooms.
It's pitch black outside already. I don't have anywhere to go anyways.

Make laps around the building or something.

Walking in the dark is kinda neat.

You can't sleep?  Why not?

TBF's first answer was actually serious - do something relaxing you know you'll get some pleasure out of. It can be anything that will make you think of something else than whatever's on your mind right now.
