So I've been the local police precinct recently because of my aforementioned tablet-troubles, and the cops were grumpy and there was a lot of waiting involved, but hey, I can deal. This is not about that.
Thing is, I was waiting there in the company of a dozen Tajik guys who were there while the cops were checking their work permits with their higher-ups/the migration office/whoever it is that deals with that. So they've taken those guys in in the morning, and they had to wait until fucking 10 PM in a room that has two chairs and that's it. No food, no nothing. Thank the lawd there was a bathroom there.
Why the fuck do they have to mistreat and disrespect people like this? Would it have been so fucking hard to bring out some more chairs or get them a bottle of cheap-ass soda and some bread from the store that's literally five goddamn steps away while you're on break? Hell, they could've escorted one of them there so he could get stuff for the rest of them, but nah, I guess they have important crimes to deal with, can't spare five fucking minutes so that a dozen men don't have to sit hungry on a cold-ass floor for the whole fucking day, woo.
And when they complained to the on-duty officer (a bald-ass, fat-ass motherfucker with the worst case of Resting Bitch Face I've ever seen), he snubbed them, gave them his best impression of being deaf (he did that to everybody, not just them), and finally straight-up threatened them. Smug fucking bastard.
They were pretty swell guys, too. One of them lent me his phone so I could call home about all the waiting. I won't get into the whole migrant rights problem in Russia because it's a long and very politically-heavy story, but shit, man. Why they gotta treat people like they aren't people? I mean, they were assholes to me too, but I was an asshole right back at them, while the Tajiks were basically resigned to this bullshit, with the exception of an old guy who was their senior (he complained to himself and to me because I listened). It's like this happens to them on the reg. Bloody hell.
Only thing that cheered me up is that the ethnic Russians that were waiting with them agreed that this was some bullshit, and were generally sympathetic. We can be pretty racist little shits sometimes, and it's nice to see that it's not the case a lot of the time.
It's like, the cops treat everybody like trash, but they treat those guys like they're supertrash. I dunno, we were waiting together a lot of the time, and I just feel that they were more assholish to them than to me. I get that they have their own problems with funding and that it's a stressful job, but I just feel that a lot of that stress would be lessened if they weren't such bastards to random strangers.
