Maybe socialised medical care isn't a bad idea.

For a bank in a country seen as efficient and no-nonsense, Deutsche Bank is sure a bunch of deutsche bags.

One of my past roommates played Star Trek Online, but he was a Trekkie of the highest order, like a serious fucking old-school Trekkie but too young. He also convinced me that Voyager wasn't terrible, so now I can't even discuss Star Trek without people trying to kill and dismember me.

There was also at least one debate about the validity of the Prime Directive that lasted until 5 AM.
Voyager was great. There aren't THAT many people trying to dismember us :P
I played as Klingon up until a little past the mission where you storm Klingon Hell, fight the Klingon Devil, and Klingon Jesus makes you a sword. That was weird.

My uncle's a doctor, and he's certainly comfortably well-off. I think it probably varies quite a bit by country. The cost of living here is pretty low, for instance.
There's a difference between being comfortable and being wealthy. Also, I emphasize once again: WORK HOURS. Back when I was a resident I was earning more than any other of my former high school companions or same-age relatives. I was also putting in around twice or thrice as many hours per week as them.

I'd add that it probably varies the most by specialization and level of specialization.
Less than you might think. There are some differences by the type of contract, rather than the level of specialization (there aren't many levels to begin with. In many places there are only two levels). There's some difference between specializations, but once again it mostly comes down to WORK HOURS. If you're working more hours you earn more, even if you're not earning all that much per hour.
If you check Medscape US statistics, several surgical specialities are paradoxically both amid the "best paid" ones and amid the "least satisfaction" ones. In contrast pathologists don't earn all that much, and paradoxically are more satisfied. Why? Work-hours.

Ability to arrange a business all-by-yourself is there somewhere, but in most cases it's basically adding more work-hours to work-hours. Far less profittable than people think.

Not if it means they can hike up the costs of treatments because of it.
Yeah. Because doctors are totally the ones setting up the cost of treatments.

The ever elusive "they" in this instance being administrators. They're not going to pay for something when they can shift it onto their customers.

They will only shift it onto their customers after shifting it onto their workers. Eg: making us work longer shifts. For instance, tomorrow I'll get shafted with three extra hours of work (I'll get paid... I think) because the administration simply cant fathom that maybe, just maybe, they cannot use just two specialists to cover a whole hospital, even a small one. Goes without saying that this does rebound kn the patients, although in a roundabout way

Another neat trick (this one is mostly used by private clinics operating in countries with public healthcare) is accepting only low cost patients. The minute someone has an expensive, hard to treat condition, you pack it towards elsewhere. Bonus points if you actually claim that you sent him to get some specialized test and keep charging for his bed while he is away (I've seen this happen)

I was unable to take the hint and leave a person (who isn't Gamedragon by the way) alone when he was quite obviously tired. And I think he's kind of annoyed at me now.
