Are you surrounded by nothing but idiots and weirdos? I mean, I'd accuse you of making this stuff up, but there's just so much WTFery going on that I doubt you could make it up.
I wouldn't say "nothing but" idiots and weirdos, but there do seem to be a large number around. Edmonton is not exactly the greatest of cities...

Also I don't post about the average people. 2 people walked by and did not say I was mentally handicapped.

It does seem like a few of the frequent posters on this thread have an anomalous excess of weird-ass mothertruckers in their lives.

Heiterverzweiflung. Not a legit German word so much as something a friend and I made up in German class once. "Carefree despair". When life is so fucked that you can't stop laughing.

I wish I had any real ambition or drive. Or at the very least the ability to learn something without either a) being on bullshit meds or b) getting distracted and giving up.

Everyone has ambition, ambition is one of the most human things that could ever exist. You just have to set a goal for yourself.

No quotes please.

I have just a little bit more trouble caring every semester, and my grades reflect it. I was looking at my transcript earlier today, to schedule for next semester, and I marveled for a moment when I saw that I used to have a 3.5 GPA. It's almost impressive how linear the change semester by semester has been, and if there was a way to graph my social and physical health they would probably look pretty similar.

Maybe I'm depressed and I need to seek treatment. Maybe I don't know how to study properly and natural talent can't take me any farther. Maybe I've tried to do too much at once. Maybe I'm just not good enough. Maybe it's some combination of those things. Regardless of the reason, I might get some more C's, C+ if I'm lucky (unless I pull A's or high B's out of my ass on these things and that's not gonna fucking happen) but that's the best I can hope for, and even if I do manage that it's B's I need on my transcript. This realization has not helped my morale. If anything it means I need to do even more to un-fuck myself to even have a hope of recovering later, but I also wonder why I would think next semester will be any different. I can't even admit defeat and bow out, because that just changes the problem to "find a way to pay off your student debt on some shitty McJob."

Why do people just... like, assume that you're the same as them?

I mod because I consider Dwarf Fortress a social activity and think that making Dwarf Fortress into something that there can be further mutual understanding in, even beyond the game itself, could be an incredible way to create conversation.

I complain that people don't play my mods because nobody talks about the damn mods. That's all I care about.

But when I complain about that, people say things like "mod for yourself". Fuck that. I'm allowed to do things for different reasons than you, fucking hell.

Because people have to learn how to think like anyone else, and they don't often have time to put that effort in.  This is just my theory, but that's it, for what it's worth.  I'm sure you can find a psychologist with something better, but eh, whatever.

If you want them to think like that, you do need to teach them why you think like that, and maybe it'll get picked up.

It does seem odd how lackluster the player community around mods is here, yeah.

I try my damndest to see what other people are thinking, even to the point of taking upwards of an hour just thinking through all the irrelevant details I have to see how they might effect things. I'm never totally right, and half the time I'm not even close, but spending all that spare time I seem to have is pretty useful for planning my next move in literally anything.

I haven't used any major mods in ages. Seasonal farming (or whatever the latest incarnation of that's called) is about it.

Honestly, I don't play enough to try out mods, really.

I spend most of my time working on my own DF stuff, and I don't really play all that much.
