Hard science is like a sword, and soft science is like fear. You can use both to equally powerful results, but even if your opponent disbelieve your stabs, they will still die.

I haven't actually had them but I think they're crispy bits of batter in which perhaps there was, in the not-too-distant past, a slice of onion?

Oh nope it's actually just corn twisted into onion-ring *shape* with onion flavoring added?  Sounds about right.

I mean don't get the wrong idea...
I have eaten a lot of very artificial highly processed and glamoured food, these sound pretty good.

I like them, but my family thinks they're terrible. But hey, they're cheap too, so they don't argue when they show up in the house

My mom is depressed and I cannot help her. There is literally nothing I can say that hasn't been said, many times over, for as long as I've known that she suffered from depression. She doesn't want professional help, she doesn't want to acclimatize to the present. I cannot explain to her "You will never go back to 70's California" in a way that she will accept. How do you help somebody that's bitter, unfulfilled and angry at life?

She doesn't want help. She wants to win the lottery and buy a self-sufficient ranch away from society, and the Fountain of Youth and a pretty pink pony while she's at it. I can never satisfy this romanticized vision she has of being a bumblefuck Amish recluse, and she never lets me forget it either.

Why don't I just save up and move out? It's not a matter of "saving up so I can move out", it's a matter of "kick and scratch just to have some pocket change left over". Got some overtime? Guess what, the car took a shit and we need a new one. Still somehow have your FAFSA leftovers? Good, your sister's worthless boyfriend lost his job again, your niece and nephew are starving so we're buying groceries for two households this month. Manage to hock your $200 textbook for less than a fifth of what you paid? It's time to change the oil again. It's one fucking thing after another after another, and when it seems like everything's fine then some new cataclysm happens and we're back to square one.

This is bullshit and I can't see any way out of it.
Well, I'm likely not qualified to give any advice on this. :c

I hope you find a way out of it.

Funyuns tasted alright when I tried them, although they aren't a patch on actual deep-fried onion rings... yum.

I'm a sucker for products with obscene amounts of garlic powder for flavor. See Funyuns, also "Chicken in a Biskit" chicken-flavored crackers.

Morning! It's evening here, and apparently I don't get any dinner for... some reason. Will have to make sandwiches later, I guess.

If you want to fix your sleep pattern, it's most likely gonna mean going to bed when you aren't tired...

Tried that. I've memorized my ceiling. And the books on the wall. And what the end of my bed feels like with my feet. And what it feels like to not be able to stop thinking. Definitely the last one.

TFW you have to toss out your bowl of good instant ramen because it's full of soap suds from where some ass apparently decided it was okay to dump soapy water over the drainboard and let everything air-dry, and then you find out that you've got nothing left but the $0.20 crap.
