Because we were too busy with the Cold War to take Von Braun up on his offer.

I still feel like shit about myself and my inability to do anything. I have school again next week and, tbh, I'm not optimistic about anything changing. I could literally post the same thing in this thread every day, because I feel like shit about being asocial and terrible with girls all the time.
Group therapy, man. It doesn't mean you're crazy. Just go see your counselor and see what you can get signed up for.
i should really do this.

that said, i should really be doing a lot of things like homework, getting a student job and aagh >.<

Really, mental health is every bit as important as physical, so i second Hugo's notion. Group therapy is a great thing, and it taught me a lot about how to deal with my anxiety.

Also, flu sadly hasn't decided to go away yet. I did get some sleep tonight, but now all my coughing-related muscles are sore as hell, likewise with my eyes and throat, and i'm basically still missing one full nights worth of sleep from yesterday. I can't say i was expecting it to be this physically painful, but at least i don't seem to have a high fever. :I (pain doesn't mess with my head, fever does)

edit: it just strikes me that i can finally say that i'm sick and tired quite literally, woo

I just got turned down for a good job, because of my old GPA.... (years and years ago). They have no one to fill this role either....

They liked my resume. They liked my experience.... I even got an A - in the class in school, and high grades in several other relevant ones. I had a great many jobs during school and had to focus on that (showing initiative and gaining practical experience). Keep in mind these are heavily curved against the student.

....

Wow.

Wait, wha? They focused on GPA instead of work experience? I've never had any employer past the first one even look at my GPA, for undergrad or grad school.

That's some serious bullshit. My guess is they had another reason that they didn't want to admit and are using the GPA thing as a cover excuse.

I know, right? It was very transaction based in nature. I pulled strings and got the unofficial ones pronto, bypassing the wait time rules, etc. The recruiter emailed me himself....

I will say that the industry is very picky about very foolish things and perhaps that might be examined as to why it has been in bad shape for years. We are talking about a very old and prestigious firm with national and international prominence. [sigh]. I don't know that I belong there anyhow. I got mixed messages about how I did business, perhaps that I was beneath them for charging so low or doing lower value projects. I will say that I would be quite surprised if any of them could've done what I did by themselves....

It has occurred to me that the recruiter may have baited and switched me, luring with an exceptional job and leading me to a lesser one, but I don't want to ascribe those motives to him.

I am disheartened. Law school is heavily skewed. The incoming first years are the absolute top of their college class. Half fully fail out with Ds and Fs after one semester.... Either their brains leaked out of their heads in 9 months, or something smells rotten with the GPA system.

I can't say I favor being prodded and probed. The construction workers respected me, because I wasn't an overbearing "office idiot" (I cleaned that up a bit), and I knew what I was doing, could handle a saw, and made sure they got paid with all the paperwork done. These guys, however, seem to enjoy me under a microscope. Not a place I wish to reside....

Never go to law school in the United States kids.
