Second week of classes and I'm already at the whole "coffee and homework till 3am" ordeal. I'm just...fatigued.

Heiterverzweiflung. Not a legit German word so much as something a friend and I made up in German class once. "Carefree despair". When life is so fucked that you can't stop laughing.

At the start of the World Economic Forum today, the Ellen McArthur Foundation presented a research paper which predicts that by 2050, there will be more plastic in our oceans than fish :P

How do you sum up a likely unlikely scenario in with one word?

I mean, it sounds like it could be a thing, all things considered.
But still doesn't seem like it could be.

Technically there's a real possibility that the increase in the pH of the ocean will cause a mass extinction event. So if we have no fish, we'll have more plastic in the ocean than fishes even if somebody only threw a single plastic bottle in the ocean.

But I'm no marine biologist. Plus, there's deep water fishes. And fishes that aren't pansies.

War elephants. Alps. More Alps. Too many Alps. Wooden cranes to hoist elephants over crevices. Silly Hannibal, thinking that would work. All his elephants died to pneumonia. Elephants aren't meant to trek through freezing mountains.

Hang on, didn't most of the elephants make it through? I thought it was like three quarters of his army that left/died.

Hard science is like a sword, and soft science is like fear. You can use both to equally powerful results, but even if your opponent disbelieve your stabs, they will still die.

@BHK

Listening to that stuff is your therapist's job. And from my experience, they want to know that stuff. I understand the urge to bottle it up. I've been there - heck, there some moderately embarrassing posts of mine in this thread about literally the exact same thing. You know what had an immediate positive effect? Getting a therapist and venting at him. It's a safe space.

If you're not comfortable venting to your current therapist, find a new one. My therapist works a half-hour drive from where I live - I don't have to worry about running into him elsewhere. It helps a ton.
So my therapist is just a vent, nothing else? And am I that emotionally weak that I need a safe space?

Changing my therapist on a whim isn't an option. My current one is straight up retiring in February, so I guess i'll start after that.

So do many, many other people. There's no worth or opportunity in that.
