???  does anybody here actually  believe christianity is a persecuted religion in the first world?

That's a matter of perspective. I don't see it as persecuted, but I can see how it's supporters might see it that way, similar to how supporters of dangerous quack medical treatments like homeopathy or TCM might see themselves as needlessly persecuted. But if one sees homeopathy as persecuted but not tcm (or Christians but not Jews and muslims) that goes beyond perspective into bias.

Political leanings have nothing to do with the right of self defence, this last word rather relevant when the police here got neutered by several laws and we are starting to see a sharp increase of crime around here.
And we have minor terrorism too at the south here.
The cops won't protect you nor will the laws.

I disagree, at least as this applies to me personally. Though If I were black you would be absolutely correct.

im talking about south america,in fact it is about the situation in Chile right now.
the cops are incompetent and you can really see they dont get much in the IQ department.
and the laws always fuck you here, never helping nor working in your favor self defense wise.
and it is not a civilized place not matter what articles say. for knowing what kinda place it is you must read the local papers.

anti gun leftists nutjobs
It's kinda surreal seeing someone expressing right-wing views on this forum, especially with basically everyone else being somewhere left of possibly slightly right of centre.

When you get called a psychopath and are told to "Get some fucking help before you hurt somebody" for posting pro-gun views, people tend to stop posting them.

There are two types of radical opinions however.

One, is ideas that have never been tried, or haven't worked out in the past. You're free to call someone a nutjob if they keep proposing those sorts of ideas (e.g. complete anarchy or complete libertarianism fall in this category).

The other is ideas where you can point to an example of those ideas being successfully deployed. If you've got a good example of it working, then an idea isn't nutjob, because you can see it in action.

Most of the arguments against gun control are proven wrong because there are plenty of countries which have strong gun control laws, and they don't suffer from the problems gun rights activists claim will happen. I live in Australia, and would I like to own a gun more easily? Well, I guess so, why not. Except for the fact that I definitely feel safer being pretty sure I'll never have someone pull a gun on me in my whole life, nobody I've ever met has told me a story about someone having a gun pulled on them, and I can live fairly certain that I won't get shot by the cops by mistake when I pull my wallet out because they think I went for a gun. "but guns are fun and about freedom" is literally the only upside to looser gun laws that gun rights activists can offer me. Sure, it's hella fun to be shit scared that every other fucker will have a gun when I leave the house, great freedom. Freedom to have more trigger-happy heavily armored cops everywhere. Free to be forced to carry a gun because everyone else is, and I just might need it for that reason.

Another example would be things like public hospitals. Sure, the theory goes that if you have a public hospital it will all go to shit, costs will rise and service will fall. Except none of that matches the results in the ~200 nations on Earth. The most expensive systems by far are those which are highly privatized and unregulated. They've got you by the balls - the literal balls - when it's your life and death at stake. if you don't regulate health services then the health providers will milk everyone dry. There's no limit to how much money people with cough up when the choice is life or death.

The third example would be education spending in the USA. The theory is that the USA federal government spends too much on public schools, and that we should get the feds out of education, and that private schools would do it better and cheaper. Nice theory, except for the fact that there's no country on Earth where this has worked out. Sure, you can be the first to try a completely-private education system and hope that works out, but there's no rational basis for it working, it's purely theoretical. And there's a good reason to doubt it. If private schools could do the same thing cheaper then they would have been offering to take kids in exchange for the education tax funding for years now. And since education in the USA is split between hundreds of local education boards, you have to believe that either every single education board is conspiring to not outsource to private schools, even though they will save money. If it would save money then education boards would pay for private tuition. Since they're not doing that, we can surmise that nobody is offering that service.

the US federal government spent $39 billion on elementary-highschools and there are 50 million public students. And state governments only pay $6.7 billion for school education. That's just $800 federal dollars per student per year, and the average private tuition is $9500. The school fees of the 5 million students in private schools is higher than federal + state education spending on the other 50 million kids. Almost all the public education spending comes from local government spending in America. Which means extra bureaucracy and extra local taxes (which are going to be more inefficient and confusing than a state or federal tax system). It also means kids from poorer neighborhoods are artificially penalized since their school board can't raise as much money. That means bright kids from poor neighborhoods miss out. Having consistent state or federal funding reduces the disparities in educational quality, which would help to reduce the poverty-cycle. Basically America needs to move to a state-funded education system. That would just be a lot more efficient and reduce inequality / wasted potential.

Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

And you'll probably never see any of that implemented in the US (atleast not anytime soon, unless something crazy comes around to instantly make people think with their fucking heads). Mostly because it requires effort and is seen as risky (or heaven forbid, !!COMMUNIST!!) by the folks who would very much prefer to keep things working as they are because they lack either the forethought or human decency to think of future generations or hell five years into the future even because they're doing just fine as they are.

But that's what you get with political systems based on popularity, they get filled with spineless fuckwits who'll do anything to stay in power instead of doing what's arguably best for the people who put them there.

I have no idea why I wrote all of that up, eh, there was some sad stuff I think but I'm not sure what to do with it atm, think I'll need to have another notepad conversation with myself to get to the root of the issue here.

The school thing and the hospital thing are the bitter harvest of Cold War era propaganda convincing everyone that capitalism was good

So I had this really neat little plugin installed for Firefox. It basically made you a submenu on the right click drop-down. And you could specify any number of folder paths in this submenu, whereupon saving an image you didn't have to pick a folder manually every time, you just picked it from the drop-down and it autosaved it there. Now, this was really useful for gathering references and cool images for inspiration, because I didn't have to periodically sfit trough the huge ass number of them and sort them in their proper folders (of which there are many). But, as it turns out, the plugin got fucked recently, or a long time ago, I'm not entirely sure, because I noticed that it stopped saving stuff properly, as in, it doesn't save shit like JPEGS anymore for some reason, just a non-descript file which can't be opened. That means that the last, I even don't know how many at this point, because I use it daily and I have no idea when it stopped working properly, images haven't actually been saved in a useable manner, which is extremely shitty because there was some really cool stuff that I don't think I'd be able to find easily anymore.

I fully intended on going to work today. Set my alarms, forced myself to go to bed at (just a few minutes after) bedtime.
Then none of my alarms went off and- despite me usually waking up before my alarms anyway- I slept in and will have to go in tomorrow instead. At least I had a heap of weird/interesting dreams, I guess.

Still, as I lay there half-asleep, wondering WhyTF my alarms didn't work, I realised: in my rush to get to sleep last night I forgot one, crucial detail- setting my computer not to go to sleep whilst plugged in. Yes, I have to use the shitty Windows alarm app at the moment. It is terrible.

So yeah. That's annoying. I coulda stayed up all night playing Gauntlet if I'd known I wouldn't be going to work today. >.>

Edit: Oh hey, I got paid! Yay!
Now it's time to transfer almost all of it out of my account for various things I need to pay for and leave myself stony broke again.

Finals week. Stressed out. Depressed, whether it's a coincidence my mood turned to shit on finals week or it's because of finals week. Suicide seems a really appealing option. Been screaming incoherently in my car to relieve stress. Wish I could kill myself without upsetting anyone who cares; ruining my parents' lives is really the only thing stopping me at this point.

Wheeeeeeee.

I have no time and I have things I need to do that take a lot of time. :(

Also, I looked up some people I used to know just to get an idea of where they've gone and it reminded me that I'm not in contact with them any more and I don't have a good way to get in contact with them. :'(
