Twilight Zone Season 1, episode 8. Netflix
Spoilers, but it's... *checks* about 55 years old? But then again, since a lot of people miss watching the classics, it really is a spoiler.
Nerdy mild-mannered bank clerk just wants to read. But his boss threatens to fire him for reading on the job, and his (embarrassingly shrewish) wife uh... disapproves. That's the set up.
His wife catches him hiding a book of classic poetry on the way to a dinner party. She expresses interest, asks him to read from it.
...Turns out she drew hash marks, not X's but continuous hash marks, over every page. Fucking insane person.
Then she rips out all the pages in front of him which, for personal reasons, I was actually triggered by. UGH.
So then later
Bombs fall, he only survives because he's hiding in the bank vault reading.
He's about to off himself, when he finds the public library. The books are mostly intact. He's still sad, but he's also content to live on, reading, for the rest of his life. (Earlier he found more canned goods than he could ever eat)
He drops his fucking glasses and they break
...DAMMIT writers, why. They really aren't usually this sadistic.
The whole episode felt kinda personal to me I guess.

Truck's tire burst on the freeway two hours ago,and I've heard nothing from my company's breakdown department since then. Goddamn Mondays.
Two hours and counting sitting out on the road? Damn, that really sucks.
