Well now you are my hero.

I mean, I also am the kind of person who hoards 'dead skills'.
I guess in case of apocalypse or something.
It's the major change which isn't going to happen, but hey.

I get the feeling that the world is going to end at it's highest pinnacle of tech, because we'll push research to the nth degree trying to fix the thing which is killing us.

That being said, cursive is a bitch, and it belongs on valentines letters and nowhere else.

Dude, I can't bring a cell phone in there without swearing I'll leave it turned off the whole time and never dream of letting anyone use it in jail. So, many, reasons....

a.) The inmate could use it to make an unrecorded harassment or threatening call to a victim or witness (bypassing official system) as that would be contraband.
b.) The inmate could direct criminal activity, retribution, and/or escape attempts from inside to those on the outside.
c.) The inmate could smuggle pornography or other contraband into the jail (or other compromising material).
d.) The inmate could use materials of the phone to make a weapon (shiv) or hide drugs in the (dummy) case.
e.) The inmate could take photographs inside the jail, including undercover police officers put in the cells to report on things inmates may say while in prison (yes they do this).
f.) Etc, etc.

Hell, they take extra special precaution anytime I need a jail inmate to sign something with a damn pen (totally shiv material).

Maybe you should start carrying quills to jail? Would be a bit hard to shank anyone with a freakin' feather.

... not really? Writin' quill'll go through skin pretty easy. Get someone in the neck or the eye and you can do some damage.

They're not allowed to have pornography? That's cruel and unusual!

Got a 74 on a history test.

With this and my calculus test it seems my test scores are going to absolute shit. 74 isn't failing but it's not an A or even a B either. Reeeally ruining my mood, I thought things were going good in these classes.

I know a small smattering of ancient Egyptian and that skill has proven more useful more often than knowing how to write any cursive letter that isn't in my name.

Well, cursive is unnecessary effort, which can be translated into sincerity or sentimentality.
So love letters, invites or redundancy papers mean more when they're hand-written well.

It's punishment.

The hard beds and bad food and lack of bathroom privacy and being cooped up among other people who are as bad as they are all seem like legitimate parts of a punishment. Banning pornography on the other hand at best just seems petty (and at worst seems like something that might be a holdover from theories of morality dating to the age of quackery)

I would definitely support replacing all cursive education with something that teaches a useful skill.
Actual calligraphy maybe?
