Supervisor is apparently working 20h overtime each week despite not showing up more than one day out of two, taking two-hour lunches, and leaving hours early when they do show up. Only competent co-worker has already been doing most of her job because super is incompetent and half-literate, now she's also having to cover all of super's night events because the rest of the staff can't be trusted to not fuck things up. I don't have the time to file an anonymous tip right now, and from what I've found there's no readily available way to do so.

It's a more personal meaning than an objective meaning. Like, 'this is how this word means to me' > application. :/
I wish to understand the situation in your area more. :-\

That's not the best thing to do. Something like that can quite easily result in scarring if you do it too much in any given location. :-\ The good news is that problems like that are often greatly helped by just being aware of it and actively working to stop yourself from doing it. Just note whenever you are doing it and stop, and that should be enough to stop the problem given a bit of time.

To add to this: What i2amroy said.
I've done that (and nothing bad resulted in it, ie removal of pimples from picking it), but its a contextual thing. ._.
Most of what is being experienced is a result of the biological defense mechanism of the body--something very interesting to do (biological/probably social) research on :3 (ie Bug bites? Why does the area around the bite swell? WHY IS IT ITCHY!? ARGHH. PIMPLES MAKE ME LOOK D: WILL THEY JUDGE ME!?).

Its nice to counter reactivity with foreknowledge. A habit is formed from repetition.

I get cycles of that. The best solution is to just try not to do it, which requires vigilance because often you'll start doing it without realizing. Though putting some astringent, and eating stuff like cucumber helps greatly in my experience.

I do the same with scratching the eczema on my elbows. I used to have colossal arm-spanning rashes that would not stop itching.

My friend learning programming is having trouble because she can't deal with blackboxes :c eg, not being able to understand the server/client framework that passes messages around, even though she doesn't need to know that since it's provided and the task is writing a few functions like indexMessage() or whatever.

Programming is blackboxes all the way down...

I wasn't aware it was possible for someone to be such a pretentious twat.

This reminds me of when one of the pseudo-tabloids over here had one of their writers blog about "how it is to be poor", by having her lower her spending budget for one month.

But seriously, do people not heat their homes in the US or what?

I have heard that houses in America have super-thin walls compared to this side of the pond. That might be related?
