I think someone has the right to hate all inebriation. After all, it is literally a poison, with very few beneficial effects.
Hating alcohol is not nearly the same thing as hating puppies.

Yeah, he's a banned spammer. Normally we'd delete this thread too, but people were having too much fun with it by the time we got here.

Define "beneficial".

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

I'd suppose my hate for it also comes in some quantity out of fear that it could cause me to lose my emotional control and do some things to certain people that I really shouldn't do if I want to keep their friendship, which I very much do.

That first one is a guy praising whiskey and the second one didn't load, just resulted in a blank page.

The If by Whiskey example could also be applied to Smoking...

The basic idea is that it makes tax dollars, and therefore it's OK (even though it's not OK).

Though the whole prohibition thing was dumbass. Doesn't even work on kids (elementary school black markets were a thing), so why would it work on adults?

I am boring as fuck whilst sober.
Personally I see "not being boring as fuck" as a beneficial effect. *shrug*

It's because they didn't manage to throw out an entire generation with it.
If they had've pulled that off, prohibition would've stuck.

But as long as you've got a copper who misses his drink, you'll have a copper who'll turn a blind eye to it.

Ah well, short of genocide there's not much you can do to change people's opinions. I suppose we'll have to let our festering piles of resentment seethe apart from each other.

Alcohol does have its uses. Since it relaxes you if you get into things like crashes it increases survival rate (although it increases the odd of you being in a crash...) and it's antibacterial, so you have that.
So does morphine, and whilst pure alcohol is antibacterial, standard alcohol has so much sugar that it actually does the opposite effect.
