They are being charged and ya they know who it was
But I just heard my mom talking to my friend's mother and I heard something about the guy getting off without any charges

I find it unlikely that he is, but I don't know enough about the situation. If he's still in the hospital, maybe it might give you some closure to go meet him?

I've got closure
As hard as that is to say, it's been about 4~6 months ((I don't have a good grasp on measurements of time or anything else for that matter)) since he was killed, I'm still sad about it but it doesn't weigh me down anymore, I believe he's in a better place.
If I went to meet the guy I wouldn't be able to keep myself from beating him within an inch of his life, especialy with the way his family and he are trying to say he's innocent.

If you follow this advice, I'd recommend having somebody come with you and staying silent to see if he'll show remorse/try to explain/whatever. And even then, try not to show your anger in the hospital... You may not be able to forgive him, but you shouldn't... I don't know... Say what you say calmly, I guess. And definitely have somebody there if you can't take it. I don't know if I could, but I would need the support of a friend or other loved one... I'm very sorry for your loss, and that's all I have to say.

Oh. Nevermind about what I said then. Except that I'm still sorry for your loss and I'm sad over this.

You could do what I did last week when my motivation evaporated in a sudden blaze of unexpected free time. That is, play old video games from your childhood and see what new lessons you can learn. Tea is damn good for that, too. And comfy socks as a weapon against the cold.

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

I'm sure it's been a major theme of the thread today already, and I'm going to add one more to that.  I wasn't a huge Leonard Nimoy or Star Trek fan or anything, but the guy was clearly deserving of a lot of respect and the news is sad.

No one she knew died
I originally read this as
No one knew she died
and I was about to get real depressed.
