Sweet fuck. My school was cancelled tomorrow due to extreme cold. You want to know how extreme cold we're talking here? High of 1, low of -10, wind chill of -50. That's instant frostbite range. In North Carolina.

Meanwhile, here in eastern Washington, we haven't gone below 10 celcius at night for the past couple weeks, and the closer to the ocean you get the warmer it tends to be.

I live in Boston, off campus.  I need to use the subway system to get into school.  The line I'm using is notoriously bad, even in Boston, which has one of the oldest subway systems in the world.  This week, subway service on said line has been entirely suspended.

I can still get to school by taking a bus partway and then getting on the train, but its not fast and its not fun even compared to before.  Also for some reason on my way home today the bus stop was choked with cigarette smoke, to the point where I could feel it in my lungs for a half hour afterwards.  People who smoke in public places should be summarily executed.*

I empathise with this. Though there's a worse feeling, which is when you know perfectly well that things are going to go wrong if you do this one thing, but you do it anyway, feeling guilty about doing it all the while but unable to resist.
