My grandfather died today. That's all I can say right now, I'm still in a state of extreme shock and detachment.

:(

I wish I could say something meaningful.

A good portion of my happy childhood memories are connected with him. I owe my fascination with history to my grandfather. His departure has hit me really hard.

Truean, do you have any... good moments.. while being a lawyer? You know, things that you feel happy about or don't otherwise stress you out? You don't need to give more detail than what you already have.

I'm just wondering because it seems like you really hate being a lawyer and I'm like, why are you still working as a lawyer then, lol. No offense meant though.

Bad feels today.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Bad feels are bad. Emotional venting over. Think I'll just take a nap and stop thinking for a while.

Most friends I made in university were during class. Maybe find someone who looks bored and chat them up? Works most of the time.

Sorry about your grandfather Guardian, not much I can say other than that, losing anyone sucks.

@ Spehss_

Join a club maybe? Those are still a thing right? Well try and find one that might interest you, or might have people that might interest you, nothing better for starting conversations than having something in common.

Also I know about that god damn voice, drown that fucker out. Focus on the good things, if there are any, if there aren't then go and make some. I know the depression and lack of motivation and it sucks doubly if you don't have anyone there to help you along but you gotta punch trough that layer of bullshit eventually. Just know that you have folks here ready to help in any way we can, so hang the fuck in there bud.

In unrelated sads, a friend just keeps getting one shit thing happening to her after another, I really have no idea what to do, the only thing I can do is be there for her but often that doesn't feel enough to me, it's fucking terrible, this feeling of powerlessness.

Also Tru, keep in mind that 'whinging about the neighbour having a better car' is obviously bad- but taking pointers from their life in order to figure out what you can do similarly, that's good.
You can still look outwards constructively- it just takes a different frame of mind.

Also, Truean, if you're sensing that the ship is sinking, to use a metaphor, why not abandon ship? And yes I get theres like 700 jobs that depend on the company, but if it's THAT bad and it's having problems even with you there (and I'm sure you're AWESOME at your job), seems like nature should take it's course and the company fail due to corruption and mismanagement.

*cough; get a new job first.
But at least look. Saying 'as soon as I find something better I'll quit' is lovely, but not a lot of people actually put in the time.

Now I have a cough and had to leave early today because of it (I was told to, in fact). Doesn't seem to be any better.

If it goes on, tomorrow I'll stay in the office and do paperwork.

I wish this did not happen.

It is rather difficult to change careers. I am attempting to do so. Yes there are some small good moments, but they are vastly outweighed by the bad. Never, ever, become a lawyer. If an admissions officer for a law school attempts to recruit you, spit on him and call it retaliation. If he questions you further, hit him. He is trying to enslave you in huge amounts of debt and a career that will drive you to drink.

700 local jobs depend on this crap.... And if one of those were yours or your parent's or your friend's would you want somebody to give a shit?

I'm expressly not trying to be controversial here, but I can't really stand people talking about economics as though it had any "natural" aspects to it. The notion that things will "let nature take its course" is incorrect on two fronts: a.) Economics is a human invention, there is no natural course except the stone age, and most importantly b.) the collateral damage is enormous

Congrats kids, your parents just lost a job and we don't know how we're gonna pay the rent or buy food next month. Why? Cause, nepotism, and somebody gave their highly educated and highly stupid niece a job and she has no clue what she's doing.

In a cruel twist of fate, she's considered more qualified or a "better fit" for jobs than the lawyer who comes in to repeatedly fix the messes she creates. :D

I'll have to look at that article, thank you.

You dun gud, Tru. You dun gud.

I've been advocating hammer to the feces' faces approach for years but no one has taken me seriously. Maybe I should start using "You should have gone to law school" as an obscure curse from now on?

And Tru, even when your job feels like shit and that you're surrounded by ungratefull idiots, there's one thing you should never forget...

If I may ask, what kind of company is it? and I meant natural course as in the company collapsing under it's own mismanagement. Of course though, if you leave, they'll just hire someone else, so theres that.

And yeah, you have a point there about personal stake in the whole thing, which I don't have. I was going to add 'I don't have a personal stake in that, so I may be talking out of my ass somewhat' to my post earlier but decided not to for whatever reason.

Tru, wouldn't the best course be to just up and tell whoever is in charge about the issues?

Seriously, hear me out here. If you're having trouble morally leaving the ship to sink, then what you need to do is tell the captain that he's headed for a fucking iceberg that will kill everyone on board sooner or later. Then you can safely leave if you want because you did your best to help them (as opposed to staying with it the whole way trough and trying to plug all the holes that are letting in water, which is going to get impossible for you to manage I'd reckon) and the ball is now in their court. Wether they do as you warned them or not should no longer be your concern.
