You can't generalize these things due to the minor acts in attitude that differentiates all of them.

If your SO is unsupportive, you are effectively alone. I think I can generalize about a generalization I am making in the first place.

It was just ambiguous wording. I think smeep meant "being without a relationship is better than being in one with an unsupportive SO"

when I said no relationship I meant a lack of relationship. Not that one with an unsupportive SO is preferable. I meant that being alone would be better, having no relationship.

I think the problem is with the English language and  ambiguous syntax. "Nothing is better than X" can mean two things too many.

Once more on the friends front, I just got a chance to talk to a friend I haven't talked to in years. Terribly awkward, and I was kind of a dick to him last time we talked so... *sigh*

Hey, can't have been as awkward as when I met an old "friend" a few days back!

Before I ditched him, he'd kept the books I'd lent him and threatened to burn them over a row he had with my brother.

That was years ago- I was only a few years out of primary school- but I don't think I could ever forget how that felt.

So, met him a few days ago when he was at some church quiz thing my sister was holding, and we were in the same team.

Last year I about dropped one of my friends for being a total duche bag. Decided not to.
Still debating on if that was a good choice of not. That and I think he's still pissy about when I called him out on hitting on my girlfriend in a class I wasn't in. He said he wasn't but about 4 people and my girlfriend all said he was and he is very prone to lieing so ya.....

Depends on why you hang out with them, what you define as 'a friend', and what they do with you.  Also your own moral bend.

  I have people who act act differently around, and socialize with them for differing reasons.  The schemas involved are different enough that I would seem a completely different person.  In reality I'm just filtering out certain behaviors and attitudes.

The only time you should be hanging out with douchebags you loosely call your friends is if they are your drug dealer or a family member.
