People and beings trapped in human bodies and many other things have names. Using anything but them is a compromise to save (e.g.) space or breath, honestly. If the compromise doesn't fit everyone, you can make an exception: "There are six people, a dog, and a John walking down that street."

EDIT: Modified examples for clarity and "correctness".

you guys are confusing, nobody ever said transgender was an insult, (unless you wield it like one.)

I suppose the whole "what do I call various people" thing can get confusing. You don't have to use an asterisk with trans afaik tho, none of the pages I follow have ever done that.

Okay, I feel this joke is about to turn into a strawman argument, and it is, after all, a joke about something very serious to certain people/vehicles/other, but how about this? Just ask every person/whatever you meet, what they would like you to call them. An explanation of political correctness might turn all those funny looks you inevitably get away, but you can ignore them if it doesn't.

I'm going to be honest here
I really don't care what someone identifies as
I'm still going to say people, guys, dudes, and the such
And that's only because the way people found where I have lived used them all interchangeably
Yes we used guys to refer to females, same with dudes. The words had a different meaning than most know them by so I honestly don't care I'm still going to use it because that's how I know to use it.

All this talk about classifying and categorizing sentient beings is terrible and you should all feel bad.

Yeah, this is basically how I think about it. Don't bother trying to accommodate everyone differently when you're already accomodating everyone identically. I have a hard enough time recalling and recognizing faces and associating them to names, trying to remember how they want to be referred to results in too much confusion.
